What did you ask for and what reasons were given for refusal?
Also, did Imm suggest any alternative?

It's an interesting scenario as I'm 50 soon and intend spending more time in Thailand whilst still working away but I'd always assumed that to get a retirement visa, a major requirement would be being retired!

I think its just in Thailand where you can't do any work Steve.

If you want any info, pm me. I am on a 6 and 6 rotation mate. I think they call it a retirement visa because they can't think of another name for it...!!! lol

All that they are interested in is your age, and a proven income outside of Thailand, if not using the money in the bank option.
Along with the visa you need a multi re-entry permit. Where you may have a problem is trying to work your annual extension to fit in with an overseas work schedule.

It's something I need to think about, I understand that you have to get a proof of income from your embassy but it never occurred to me that you could do that with a normal employment contact which I now assume to be the case. The term "retirement" in the visa name seems to be misleading if you merely need to be old!
