time travel

Post by DawnHRD »

Just been watching a re-run of "Red Dwarf" on BBC Prime. It was the episode where they found they could go back in time through old photos - classic! :thumb:

Anyway, it got me thinking about changing history, whether personal or world history. As Kryten says "We could go back to Dallas in November 1963, stand on the grassy knoll and shout 'Duck!'"

So, where/when would you go back to & what would you change?

If you did that, 100 shotguns would appear and every bird in five miles would be blown out of the sky. :P

My pet peeve, I would go back to the end of WWII and tell the bloody French they CANNOT have Indochina back..PERIOD. If I did that, Ho Chi Minh would have accepted Democracy, there would have been no Vietnam War and I wouldn't have lost 58,000 brothers, all my friends who abandoned me for being a soldier and, saved the USA from a huge cutural split that still exists today. With all due respect prcscct I think going back further to then and get Adolf's mum to say "not tonight I have got a headache" would be better. Your case would have been sorted and no WWII so 6 million Jews would have survived as well as all the combatants and civillians on both sides.

Yes, very true. I think though that the Japanese would have had a go at all of Asia and eventually American anyway. We'll never know but their mentality was hell bent. Pete

I'd just go back to school and instead of smoking, bike shedding it, beering it up in town and focusing only on sport, I'd try and learn something. Maybe then I could have invented microsoft!!!

There are a couple of things I'd want to change in my own history, but in world history, I think I'd try & warn against disasters, both natural & man-made. Off the top of my head, the Aberfan tragedy, Hillsborough Stadium, King's Cross, 9-11 and the Asian Tsunami. I know that these claimed far less victims than wars do, but you guys seem to have WWII and Vietnam covered & the problem with preventing wars is that you would often have to kill someone to accomplish your goal. Not sure I could do that, whatever the provocation! :|
Oh, & I'd never be up to inventing Microsoft, but I'd like to go back & tell my parents to buy up as much stock as possible in Microsoft when it was released!!

And that's just one line. It would take a few millenia to work Jockey out and it might require time travel back about 3 million years the speak to one of his antecedents.

I was hypnotically regressed once to see who I had been in a former life. I was sure I would have been somebody wonderful and famous and changed history, at least a King or something. As I went under I found myself in wood, all alone, dressed in rags, covered in dirt and stinking like hell. I turned out to have been a Black Adder Baldrick type vagrant, great, I don’t believe it now, it just can’t be true.
