Smoking in Restaurants

Post by Tunafish »

I am extremely Pi$$ed off with thi restauraunt. I live local to the place
and am a much frequented customer, however, I go there this evening
and on the next table to me is a very young Scotish gentleman and his Thai
girlfriend, who is literally chain smoking. I have nothing against smoking, except
when I am eating, and I kindly aske him to referain, which he naturally refused,
claimi g that The Family Restaurant was a smoking restaurant.
At which point the owner became involved and took sides with the Scotish smoker.
I paid my my bill and left, and will never return, a restaurant which I have frequented
many many times since they started three years ago.

How can people be so stupid......? TIT

Family Restaurant is open -air restaurant with a very good food and nice staff and owner and smoking is allowed there. I think you can not go there and ask any other customer stop smoking if he is sitting next table to you.
Maybe if he/she is coming to sit to your table and smoking...hmmmm..then can tell that you not like some is smoking in your table when you are eating?

I have been living many years near there and I dont smoke but never ever have been asking some of customers stop smoking :)

I wonder who is a little bit stupid now

I guess if the owner allows people to smoke, then that's just the way it is. Also, who arrived first? You or the couple that were smoking. If they were there first then surely you could have chosen to sit at a different table.

I am a smoker (although I wish I wasn't) but I never smoke if/when I am sitting close to people who are eating, even if they are also smokers. On the other hand, if I am at an outdoor place, and there are countless empty tables around, but someone chooses to sit at the same table as me and then complains because I'm smoking, they will get a piece of my mind.

This happened at the floating market once. I was the only customer, and a group of idiots from Bangkok decided to sit at the same table, and within minutes one of the little cows started complaining about me smoking. I did of course point out that her stupid poodle was actually standing and sitting with it's ass on the table, and I also pointed out that her lap dog boyfriend was doing the same as their dog, that is, sitting on the table. This was followed by a GOOD telling off, letting them know that their upbringing must have been very questionable at best considering their lack of manners and public decency.

None of this would have been necessary, but they were clearly confrontational brats with rich mommies and daddies. As I've said, I usually wouldn't dream of sitting down next to someone and then lighting up while they're eating.

Anyway, if the place you mention serves good food, then I doubt your future absence will harm them. Maybe just choose your table more carefully next time.

I also frequent the family Restaurant some time five or six time a week, never have i known smoking to be an issue . Would it not of been to difficult to move table?. I don,t think this restaurant deserves bad press due to this smoking issue, guess you have done the right thing and took your clientèle else where, preferably to an enclosed smoking restaurant.

Where is it
Nobody answered Richard's question. I think both of us (I am) are former smokers and may want to go there to breathe some second hand smoke and remember the good ole days! :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

There is an open air restaurant called 'Family' on the road past Elephant Village, near to the LaVallee complexes. The road to Lotuswell is almost opposite and the area is called Hin Lek Fai.
If this is the same one, I will say that it is one of my favourite eating stops in Hua Hin.
It really is a family affair,as the owner and all his relations run the place.
Fantastic european food, cheap as chips prices, they do the best sausage and mash and the Mossiman curry is to die for!
They have a bar-b-que every sunday evening which has a salad bar, jacket potatoes and good spare ribs. The people are a very friendly and welcoming bunch and certainly not at all confrontational.
Overall, a great place to eat.

First of all i would like to point to you tunafish that you actually did assualt the young scottish guy in the family resturant by taking him by the shoulder neck region of his body with you hands rather than ask him kindly to refrain from smoking. Im sure 100% the guy would of said no problem and you have had a visit from the police along with myself in relation to your behavior regarding this and given the chance to call me as you know. So stop slandering a perfectly hard working familys business. To all who reads tunafish post i know first hand what this man did as i was the scottish guy with his missues minding our own business when i was assaulted by this dispicable man (you should be ashamed of yourself tuna to do such act in a family place !!!!)Even more so at your age (GROW UP)
Family Resturant is a hard working familys living and serves up great tasting food so why let such bad manners from a dispicable guy ruin their repution hmmmmm TUNA !!!

^ Good explanation as it's always good to hear from both sides, and never fear as I think they got more good publicity out of it than bad. Richard and I (and probably hultoon) will surly try it now! :D
