I can't think why. They won't get this much free publicity again in a hundred years, unless they open up a barber shop and then start selling meat pies.
This is the way

This is the "old guy" speaking.
First of all, I have nothing against The Family Restaurant. It is a fine restaurant, serves excellent food
and the staff are always friendly. That is why I have been a regular patron since it was first open,
As I said previously, I have nothing against people who smoke, except when I am eating.
Someone wrote about a scuffle. That is absolute rubbish. When my meal was served, I aproached the young man's table, placed my hand on this forearm and requested that he stopped smoking. He refused and continued.
At this moment the manager appeared, who agreed that it is ok to smoke in his restaurant, at which point,
I emptied my glass of wine paid my bill and left the restaurant and my untouched meal.
This young man, forwhatever reason has gone to the police claiming that I tried to strangle him!
Maybe it is his damaged pride, or maybe he has another more sinister motivation. Once again, there was absolutely no violence, and think about it, what 70 year old man would want to get physical with a strong man in his 20's? I have been back to the restaurant, spoken with the staff, who all agree that there was no physical agression.
Once again, the Family reastaurant has great food, and I would recommend it to anyone

I'm pretty sure in thailand smoking is banned in and outside all places that serve food,20000bht fine for owner 2000bht fine for smoker,so all this talk of it been a smoking restaurant is rubbish.......
of course this been thailand its probably never implemented

this link states smoking in restaurants and bars illegal since 2008,i think a restaurant can have smoking area but it must be away from patrons

I'm pretty sure that only covers the enclosed area of a bar/restaurant. And I think it only applies if the building had air conditioning (not quite sure why)

Agree with D-M, bit of a storm in a tea cup in the bigger picture.

But, as this is the second anti smoking related topic within a short space of time i thought i would jump in before it gets shut down

On both occasions the story differs somewhat from both sides, most do.
Doesn't matter to me, i'm not taking sides.

Without stirring the pot any further, , i do wonder if the anti smoking crusade in both cases would have been so confrontational/obsessive had the offending parties been, lets say, a small group of bikers or a few senior policemen doing the smoking???
After all, smoking is offensive no matter who is doing the puffing, apparently

Anyway, i'd like to add that i arrived at the place in question just as it ended & i'd like to thank Tunafish for the delicious free meal he left for me :thumb:

I know this restaurant well and it is a good restaurant. My only comment is I believe all restaurants can easily allocate areas for smoking and none smoking and then leave it up to individual none smokers if they wish to sit with smokers, which many of us are happy to do.

Closed Wednesday lunch time, never many people there but great outdoor setting and ambience if you are with the wife or special other person

A well known 'cafe' on Petcha close to soi 80 and renowned for it's F&C and other British dishes has a weird smoking rule. No smoking on the two outside tables until 4pm (or thereabouts) and smoking inside on all the 6 tables. Weird because there is an air-con unit inside which deems it illegal to smoke despite the fact it is never switched on.

Reason for no smoking outside? The noodle shop next door is run by an obstreperous X-MIB and plays hell until he closes up at 4pmish

Smoking in restaurants is a pain, and quite ignorant towards the nonsmoking guests. It reduces the quality of the place alot, in my opinion. I prefer restaurants without cigarettesmoke coming from neighbouring tables.
