mobile phone theft

Post by peelpaul »

to all the nice girls or not so nice girls in The Land Of Smiles, If you take a fancy to a nice new mobile fine, take it if you want it but please leave the sim card and then everyones happy. This has happened to me twice once Bkk other in HH.We've all been there, wot amazices me is why even the smallest guest houses dont have the small safety boxes. This would save time and hastle.Anyboby who has stayed at The NANA in Bkk will know it is a pain in the arse signing for your belongings 2 or 3 times a day.

Peelpaul,

Its easy done mate, one of my staff a few years ago was stupid enough to steal mine (it was a spare english sim just for emergencies so really never used). I didnt know it was her until i was with her sister going threw check bins - her phone rang and i picked up - clocked the number right away and tried to negotiate its return, never happened. She had ran up a bill of over 300 quid! I speak to her sister occasionally (she is married to a english guy and lives in London) she hasnt spoken to her thieving bitch of a sister since. (maybe)
When planning your entertainment here, maybe better to try and get to know the ladies a little first, maybe not go the first time you meet, maybe a better chance of them not ripping you off.

chk chk

very easy solution to a thing like that

1) do not take FL's when you have not locked away you valuables

2)security lock.
they can take the phone, but as they do not have the PHONE code it will be of no use to them

3) lock away everything...

I think the phone lock only disables the SIM, they'll buy a new one anyway. I also think it's possible to do a complete reset, the phone will function but you'll need a new SIM.

One way to possibly get around that is to supply the 15 digit code that comes when you buy the phone. It's found on that bar-code sticker. Call up the service provider and get them to disable the phone. Don't know if they will do it in Thailand, though.

If you don't have the sticker, use the following digits to display the code on your phone.

no , my nokia has a security code. 5 digits that will lock the phone
after the inactivity, someone must enter the code to use the phone
if you switch it off you must use the code to enable the phone also.
works very good.

security code don't mean nothing.... you can get it unlocked for as little as THB 100 in BKK.
most operators use the same universal override code (worldwide) anyway...

I have a very battered six year old Nokia that is a very effective deterrent against theft. Thai’s are very fashion conscious about their mobile phones and no self-respecting bar girl would be seen dead with it!

A nice little trick i learnt is to strategically position certain items of value (including money )in different areas of a room.

Easier said then done when your 10 large beers down the line i know but make the effort....it may just save you a few quid.

Pile your valuables and money in your suitcase and lock it .
Hide your key in the bathroom. She'll make a noise trying to open the case or is likely to be stopped carrying a suitcase out as staff will think she is avoiding the room charges and doing a runner.

If you do catch her trying to get it open just remember spanking is such fun!
Especially if the recipient has to let you do it!

Some sensible advice there but as for security codes there is only one (out of 6) that cannot be cracked even though modern phones are more difficult. If you have a modern phone it is more likely to be nicked.

If you really must take strangers into your room for lengthy periods then take STEVE G's advice first. I have dropped mine (phone that is) in the street twice and had Thais run after me to give it back.

Get you numbers backed up. All Nokias can do this and any decent phone shop can do it for you if you do not have the facilities or know how.

Ensure you have proof of purchase for the phone and the number will be restored to you.

Another word of warning in Hua Hin. It is not just BGs that steal phones. Most are grabbed from ladies making calls in the street by young Thais. Another new trend is the farang phone thief. There is at least one guy in Hua Hin who makes a living out of it.

BTW JW, who paid the 300 quid?
