Intelligence was the operative word in the post, if you missed it. I have enough casual "chin wagging" while teaching, and helping run a guesthouse. Backpackers with no work history and limited education tend to repeat the same mantras. Thais ? Forget it.

I would suspect that this forum is designed to help newer arrivals, and not just for the disgruntled that have been here for ages, hence my example ... Voranai Vanijaka: I was just looking for someone else, SIMILAR, to read online, in the evening. It was an example. I don't want to engage in a debate.

If you need further clarification, google:

"Andres Oppenheimer: Authoritarian leaders breed corruption"

He is an expert in Latin America culture... (Miami), but this article sounds just like Thailand.

If you don't have anything to add ... then don't.
he who calls other fools must be a fool himself.

Just because you have been in the teaching profession does not place you in a higher position than others. I could well state my qualification and they could well be higher than yours in fact they are most likely higher.
There is an old proverb, "People who are able to do something well can do that thing for a living, while people who are not able to do anything that well make a living by teaching".

Lighten up and enjoy life, it is too short to waste.

I grew up to believe 'if you can't do it, teach it. If you can't teach it become a consultant'

I tried all three and find retirement ideal

...not related to Thailand per se, but if I want the view from an intelligent person I turn to Michio Kaku, his writings or Youtube videos. He is a professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of New York, with a knack for communicating complex issues in a simple way. I don't have to believe or agree with everything he says but his communications abilities make me feel that we could have a conversation about his topics of choice at the pub - over the Sunday Roast.
He is of Japanese origin but there is no indication that he has plans to retire in Hua Hin though.
