Black & White restaurant

Post by Chromeman »

I see on TripAdvisor that Black & White are ranked as number 1 out of 327 listed restaurants in Hua Hin. And the reviews from guests looks good. Any of you locals that have anything to say about this restaurant and the food they serve?

Never heard of it in the ten years I've been here, and to be perfectly honest, I don't really think it's even possible to rank any one restaurant as being the No.1 restaurant in town. Just too many variants IMHO.

Looks interesting. I will check it out for lunch in the near future and report back. I noticed it (on Chomsin Road) a while back when it was fairly new and have been meaning to try it. As far as "best in Hua Hin" it only has ten reviews. That's too small of a sampling to call it the best but it does sound good...

note to Lomu: From reading about it the European dishes are mainly Danish and sandwiches are mentioned so maybe they have those Danish open faced sandwiches you were looking for at Christmas time.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I don't know how the algorithm TripAdvisor use calculates the ranking, but with first place with only 10 very fresh reviews, it looks like the age of the reviews in addition to the score from the user is involved.

Yes, 8 more reviews in TripAdvisor now that are not so stellar. Still ranked as no 1 out of 333 listed, but I guess that will change soon with some more low ratings.

OK, then it is of my list of places to try during my next stay, but plenty of other places to eat at!

According to TripAdvisor, there is a Le Bistro Hua Hin at 214 Phetkasem Road that serves French food that is currently ranked as no 4. That one has 116 reviews and 79 of them has rated the place as Excellent.

These are currently ranked the Top 10 of restaurants in Hua Hin in TripAdvisor:
  1. Black & White (18 reviews)
  2. Crepes & Co. Hua Hin Restaurant (111 reviews)
  3. Dacha Restaurant (28 reviews)
  4. Le Bistro Hua hin (116 reviews)
  5. Hin Lek Fai Restaurant (153 reviews)
  6. Cool Breeze Cafe Bar (169 reviews)
  7. Moon Smile & Platoo (357 reviews)
  8. Orchids (81 reviews)
  9. Molina Italian Wine & Cuisine (30 reviews)
  10. La Paillote (237 reviews)
It does not look like the number of reviews impact the ranking, so looks like it should be easy to get a new restaurant to the top of the list with a few good reviews from some friends... :(

I need to get out more. The Dacha is the only one on the list I've been too.

It was OK but it would not make my Top 10 list.

In a place like Hua Hin, where I guess its mainly tourists who might rank a place after what, one or two visits, I'd think I'd take more notice of what folk who know the place better have to say, such as those on this forum.

Some of the favourites reported on here are way down trip advisors list, probably because they're off the beaten track and get hardly any reviews.

And of course, the well know problem with Trip Advisor, is how many of those reviews are genuine?
