I've never tried buying direct from the boats, but from what I've read in the past, it can be done providing you're there in between all the action when they dock. I've also heard of people doing this in Takiap.

We've done it in Takiab in the pavilion where the boats unload and refold their nets, but not recently. I believe we did get a better price from them than anywhere else.

My wife and I went to the fishing pier one morning while the boats were off loading. She asked about buying some crab from them and was told she couldn't purchase it from them. This was a while ago and if i remember correctly the fisherman said that we would have to purchase it in bulk or place an order beforehand as all the crabs were already sold. Either way we couldn't buy any that morning and have never tried again. Perhaps every boats different?
