Visa run

Post by barrys »

A friend of mine has to do a visa run from Hua Hin to Ranong tomorrow (Sunday).
Does anyone know of somebody going to Ranong tomorrow or how can he get there by bus/minibus etc?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi Barry

There is minibus office opposite HH Railway Station. Maybe they are going tomorrow.

Thanks for that, Jimmy.

You wouldn't happen to have their phone number, would you.

Just to make it clear, my friend is doing the run from here on this way to Phuket, where he lives.
So he won't be coming back here.

Nevertheless, if the visa run minibus is going, he'll take it anyway.
So if there isn't a visa run, what's the easiest way to get to Ranong by public transport?

The public buses to Phuket go through Ranong. It's ages since I made the trip but there was a bus that went about 8am getting you to Ranong about 2pm. Then motorbike taxi to Imm and over to Burma. If things go according to plan then buses came back around 6pm and get home about 1am.
Better check the bus times to get down there though. The above was "accurate" six years ago.
Another way to do things would be to get to Chumpon today - say by train - , stay overnight and get a minibus tomorrow morning. That breaks the journey and is, IMHO, a more civilised way of doing the run. Guesthouses can be found fairly cheaply in Chumpon. Just use a tout at the train station.
EDIT, just seen your other post about not coming back here.

As I've already brought up on another thread, why Ranong when it is much easier going to the land border this side of Kanchanburi and only half the distance?

Because as I posted above: "Just to make it clear, my friend is doing the run from here on this way to Phuket, where he lives. So he won't be coming back here."

Thanks a lot for all your advice, guys ...

In case it may help others, we found this solution:

Minibus to Prachuabkirikhan from in front of K'Bank on Petchkasem road at the main Pranburi crossroads. Every hour on the hour for 60 baht - my friend took the 7 a.m. minibus.

Minibus from Prachuabkirikhan to Ranong at 9 a.m. for 250 baht - arrive Ranong just after 1 p.m.
