What Percentage of Brits Do You Think Moved Here Because....

Post by GLCQuantum »

... of the ladies.

Was just thinking how I have met so few people in the last 10 years that live here purely because they liked the country. For the most of 'em, they came here 'initially' for a holiday, but then enjoyed the, let's say, 'Adult Entertainment' a wee too much  . Don't get me wrong, some are here 'cause they couldn't afford to live anywhere else (maybe not their fault that one) :D. And some are here because they benefit from being here.

I'm just here by default - was young and penniless so had to come and scrounge off the family.

I'm going for... 60-89% are here, for one reason or other, because of a Thai woman or the Thai ladies.

They are a very pretty bunch after all...

Edit: Reason I say 'Brits', is that I've met many other nationalities over the course and they don't quite have the same 'ratio' as the Brits seem to have.

No-one's laughing... I told you why I'm here. The nice weather is a fairly common one too. Comes under 'Some are here because they benefit from being here.'

I'm still sticking with 60-89%.

What's this? A poll to determine what forum users believe the outcome of a different poll would be??

I have to agree with Pleng. The question makes no sense to me at all, and I'm wavering on moving it to FOO. However, just in case it has a hidden meaning that I'm not picking up after a long day in the sun on the beach, I'll leave it for one of my colleagues to moderate.

Perhaps an explanation of where the percentages have come from and the sample used to determine the percentages might it give it more meaning.

20% are crooks fleeing the law.
20% fleeing alimony payments.
20% because booze and cigs are cheaper.
20% have run out the string failing at everything back home.
20% got pissed in the airport and thought they were going to Majorca.
The rest? Who knows.

Easy one for me.........Freedom.

People have way more freedom here than they do in my country. Lived in the UK for ten years, and while I did have a great time, I never once intended settling down there. As for my own country.....well, no comment.

In Thailand we have a great deal of freedom; beautiful women and friendly men; crazy drivers and enough chaos to last an eternity. A perfect recipe for an enjoyable life.

Probably the number would be lower here than in pattaya. It is a factor for many men, but not the only one and in the few that it is the leading one my guess is that it would lead to disappointment.

I also don't see how the comments, which seem to indicate a personal preference, correlate up with the number bands, which are supposed to indicate an opinion on the subject.

I don't think that there is any policy that posts have to contain info which is statistically accurate, HHF is by its nature a collection of personal opinions.

By far all the Brits I've asked here have stated one or both of two reasons for moving, neither attributed (or admitted to be) to sex. It has been escaping horrid weather in the U.K. or cost of living.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

That's true, banging high price British girls on a cold wet night is no fun.

@JohnnyK: 5*20% = 100%. What 'rest' exactly? You haven't left any room.

I gave up residence in the UK over 20 years ago, to take up job offers (mainly central and northern Europe). I guess in the meantime, both I and the UK have changed and if I left here - which I will do eventually - it wouldn't be to return to the UK on any sort of permanent basis.

In any case, I came here as much by accident as design. Used to winter-over in Florida then decided to look at the MM2H route into Malaysia, with a view to maybe working in Singapore. The economic environment in 2007-08 pretty much kyboshed that. Visited HH and started doing the over-winter thing here instead. Can't say I find it a lot cheaper - though keeping a place on as a semi-permanent base when I am not here, is certainly more affordable.

Never particularly intended to stay in either HH or Thailand, and have often considered giving it up in favour of a return to the Southern US (and a return to Skiing) several times. As it is, I am reasonably content with the situation here and now but I am not in the 'rose-tinted-spectacles' category. Nor am I in any of those categories mentioned (OP or johnnyk!).

To answer the question even more indirectly - HH increasingly resembles Benidorm and / or Torremolinas, so I can sympathise with the sentiments implied in the OP's question. Make of that what you will.
