Mothballing a motocycle

Post by Korkenzieher »

What do people who are not here full-time do to store motorbikes when they you are not here? Obviously I am looking at things like having to remove the battery, but are there any places you can store bikes (out of the weather, secure etc.)?

Depending how long you were talking about - months? I would probably disconnect the battery, drain all the fuel, up on the center stand and thats about it. Possibly an oil change on your return as oil breaks down over time.

I'm thinking a bike cover would be a bad idea as a rat or similar could set up home inside and cause a bit of grief.

I know the car/bike wash place on soi 80 stores cars. Pretty sure they would store a bike also. Having said that I don't know if it would be fully garaged. Maybe just under a car port.

It is hard to know exactly how long - say 6 months for the sake of a number. On return I would probably get a service anyway, just to check it out - but I will look into the place on 80. Really, just having a reasonably secure place to leave it, preferably out of the direct sun and rain, would probably be enough.

The Harley bike shop on Klang road stores my mates bike for a small fee, and services it before he returns. He has a Harley, don't know if they do the same for other bikes but worth dropping in to chat.
