It was a nice place for a few glasses and a bite to eat but it was empty on many occasions when passing by. From a business point of view I am sure it closed as being unprofitable in that position. I did like the place but has been replaced by another business (like McD) that I will not be patronising.

I think the reason it was there in the first place was as a front for the vineyard. That's where they probably made the real money for the business.

MV as it is is not really a wine drinkers haven is it? Typically it's a western shopping mall magnet IMO for those people who adore malls and all the westernised trappings. Hence the hordes of trend loving Thais

It closed because they doubled the rent at the end of the lease. Probably because BK had already made an offer.

It seems only the junk food multinationals can afford the rent in most shopping malls and weather any down turns.

You only have to see the size of some of the Thais with their overweight kids to realise what damage these places can do.

The same could be said of you if you prefer to sit in a Wine Bar in a Western Style Shopping Mall

I think, before you post, you should spare a thought for those members that are stuck in places like Samut Sakhon. Spare a moment for those forum members who could possibly be reading this while chewing on a 12 baht tuna sandwich (6 of) from 7-11 as it's the best option available in close proximity.

In some areas of Thailand, posting what you posted above could be construed as torture...

Where B.K. is now opposite City Beach Hotel..many yrs ago this site was a rickerty restaurant..
..(sorry folks the name eludes me just now?..was it Pleng?)
Anyway at 1-2am in the morning our staff would go for some chips (or F.F.)
The cost coulda been 80B for the foil-lined shoebox FULL of crispy chips..wonderful!
Now 80B MAY get you 15-20 shoestring fries in a paper cup..those wer't days eh?

The owner of the rickety restaurant was called "Jee" I believe and I have fond memories of the place as I had many meals there when I first came to Hua Hin in 1990. Cannot remember the name though.
