Re: cost for travlers cheques
They raised the fee per cheque in March from 30 baht to 150 baht. Traveller's cheques are now an expensive option.

So whats the anwser to exchanging money in Thailand is there a cheeper way besides cash
Re: cost for travlers cheques
if you can open a thai bank account you could send more money and get and ATM card but if you only
stay short time ,maybe it's not worth it.
Maybe take some big traveller checks so you dont have to change so often.

I'm guessing you're referring to ATM charges? From my understanding/experience, not all banks charge. There is of course the commission, but that is charged from your bank and can easily be checked beforehand.bsdk1960 wrote:but usng a visa card had come expencive to ,150 baht and then what your'e bank in your'e country

IMHO, it's well worth comparing the costs/commission of the "pre-paid" cash cards. I've used them several times in the past for security and found them to be excellent. In fact my nephew is visiting the UK from China for several weeks to take an English language course and I've organised a GBP cash card for him - virtually zero costs as it's GBP, and gives peace of mind with him not having to carry a wad of cash for the duration.
I'd take a look at the costs of having a GBP cash card and what rates you'll be getting/commission you'll be paying when transferring to Thai Baht. The benefit of the card is that you load it with cash online from your main account as and when you need it, and if you lose the card or it's stolen, people can only spend what's on it (with account details), they have no credit or access to your main account - hence the security.

Well i think my thing will be £200 travlers cheques after reading this, Thats only 150bht and travlers cheques give a little more bht to the pound so maybe a better option

I saw on a BBC world travel show that Barbados has joined the growing list of countries that no longer accept TCs,it seems they are on the way out.
For what it's worth Simon Calder the presenter recommended pre loaded cards

I noticed today that at least one change booth in MV has a notice saying they don't accept GBP travellers cheques. That's a first!
