Now for something completely different..........

Earlier this month, as advised by hhfarang, there was an exhibition of graffiti in Hua Hin. By its very nature, once painted, it becomes a permanent feature.

The site of this exhibition is an abandoned factory on your left as you leave Hua Hin to the North. It is immediately before the new Chatachuck Market, and just before the airport tunnel,

An innovative solution to a messy problem. An eyesore abandoned factory – what could they do with it? Somebody had the brilliant idea of decorating the building and surrounding rubble with graffiti. Not only has it transformed an eyesore, it is now a city treasure. Banksy eat your heart out. Hua Hin graffiti is on the map.

It is possible to drive right up to the exhibition. In fact, my wife being Thai, and disliking walking (especially when it’s hot), I actually drove her around the exhibition before I got out to photograph it.

I’ve always secretly enjoyed quality graffiti on tube trains etc. back in the UK, so this was a really colourful treat. The work of about 60 Thai and international artists in one place to admire is free.

Unfortunately, my phone battery died after just one panoramic shot – apologies for my bad planning.

It would be a little hard going, but with a little effort the exhibition would be suitable for wheelchairs – I loved it.

A few days ago we drove past there and I noticed the building had been covered in graffiti, and commented to my wife that the art looked so professional, that they must be turning that abandoned building into something like a paintball or skateboard arena. I had totally forgotton about this thread I started. Now it makes sense! Great grafitti! Thanks for the photo report BB!

Yes, I'd noticed it too, but hadn't thought to stop and look round until now. Looks very interesting.

No doubt some interesting interpretations as well. The one of the old man with a bank note across his mouth conjures up a few thoughts. Pete

This is the work of graffiti artists. It ain't graffiti because it's legal and not subject to being incorporated into later, overlaying illegal work.

Great to see such positive feedback about the factory! It was a gathering of 80 artists, many of whom came from all over the world to paint that factory. There will be more street art events being held there as it is a perfect site for it and a great outlet for the artists. As far as a transformation to skate park or other, the site will be worked on to have other activities but is being done slowly as no one wants it to be done in poor taste. It is a project everyone concerned hopes turn into and keep a "city treasure".

The site could use a little less hope and a lot more action. Photos taken today:

Yes, such a shame that it's being allowed to return to nature - so much effort, and the quality was excellent in my opinion. I still mention it to visitors as we drive past.

Great Pictures of the Graffiti BB I will have to get my relatives to drive me there
on my next HH visit. I heard that a big new housing development is
underway at the south end of your city, about 1KM by 1KM, sounds massive!
Wonder if it will be a success, or flop, I guess time will tell.

I think there's a case to be made for allowing it to return to nature BB, but understand your point of view. Some great art there. I always think it's such a shame that we don't encourage more 'formalised' grafitti art in England. I've seen a lot of good grafitti in Germany and Denmark - not only on derelict sites - where it's left alone. Often alongside railway tracks. It doesn't do any harm and brightens up some otherwise boring buildings.

I have no problem with it returning to nature, but demolish/clear the concrete structure first.

I think the original intention was that the area would be expanding, but that went wrong when the new market failed.
