Re: Ice Bucket Challenge
In the us its a lot of silliness to raise money for a neurological disease. In Thai its a lot of silliness. No appeial forALS.
Re: Ice Bucket Challenge
I'm safe to say that when the first leaf falls and the wind chills, it will be all over. Besides the charity, it was/is a wonderful hot summer day activity. The West doesn't have Songkran, perhaps they will start a version? Pete
EDIT: Has anyone seen press about any of this happening in the UK or Europe? I can't recall anything.

Noted, thanks Dannie. The Beckham's however are now more American than I am.

Re: Ice Bucket Challenge
Well, it was a Sunday afternoon, and with nothing better to do, we took a wander down.
When we got there, there were already a lot of people victims waiting.
We didn't realise that Hua Hin's dignitaries would be suffering this icy fate, but it all became clear when the executive chairs were being set out.
The kick was scheduled for 14:30, but the first ball wasn't kicked until an hour later. In the meantime, we had to listen to the 2 comperes for the day drone on, mainly in Thai. I'm sure they were doing a great job, as people often burst into laughter, but I didn't find it at all funny.
Next up was the entertainment. At least, I think that's what they were calling it. A bunch of young lads doing what I suppose you call street dancing. Of course, Mr Farang Holidaymaker was there with his camera. All of this was for his holiday enjoyment, and he stood in everybody's way. Of course, Thais being Thai, nothing was said. Eventually though, a young girl aged about 9 went forward and whispered in his ear. He tried crouching for about 10 seconds, and then walked off in a sulk. At least we could see what was going on now.
Buckets and bowls of iced water were prepared and laid out around the arena.
The dignitaries arrived, and willingly sat in their execution chambers.
The area behind the dignitaries filled, and the head man said a few last words.
The dignitaries were introduced to their executioners.
And the fun began:
At the end of the day, everybody seemed to have enjoyed it, and it was all done with a smile.
What was it really in aid of? I've no idea, there was nothing written in English. Could I have donated? Apparently there were collection boxes for donations - I didn't see any

Shame BB. You could have spent the afternoon on one of the many loungers on the beach instead

Once again the Thais (bar the businessman that donated a million and would donate a further 4 if his nominations participated) have taken a thought/idea, twisted it around and devolved it into a ridiculous mess. What was a money raising event has now become an early Songkran for Thai people.
You can't get upset about it though, can you? I mean... you wouldn't shout and curse at the actions of a disabled kid or a kid with Downs syndrome. It's for these reasons that I don't get angry at Thai people.

It's also one of the reasons I don't allow myself to get angry at your posts any more.GLCQuantum wrote: You can't get upset about it though, can you? Oh SH1T
This grumpy old man has just been nominated from afar. My mischievous daughters and their partners have given me 48 hours to perform. Anybody know any good video merchants that can fabricate me a response please? Failing that I need somebody with a video camera and is able to lift a bucket of warm water and douse me near the pool

Warm water - you should be ashamed of yourself
Don't forget the little dance afterwards.

Great pictures Big Boy. The event looked very entertaining!.
I guess if it was held yesterday, the skies would have helped
with lots of water from above!
