Non-Imm O (married) visa extension & New Passport!?

Post by huahin4ever »

Hi,

My Non-Imm O married visa extension (multiple entry) expires April 3 next year. My passport has only one and a half page left so my plan is to renew my passport either in November this year or January next year. What will happen to my extension in the old passport, and my entry stamp coming into Thailand? I will renew my passport at my country's embassy in Bangkok.

Will Immigration in Hua Hin transfer all information needed to the new passport? If they do what do I require to bring with me? When renewing my extension in April, will the new passport be sufficient?

A lot of questions here, but I hope someone on the Forum has done something similar and could explain what I need to do?

When I renewed my passport, I simply took the expired one (which is returned to you) and the new one along to HH Immigration when my extension (employment, but the category should be irrelevant) was due for renewal.

If you want to transfer the extension into your new ppt straight away, you can of course. Probably a good idea if you're travelling abroad. I don't think you need to take anything with you except both ppts. There is a standard fee (naturally... ). If you do this, you won't need to take the old ppt with you when you renew your visa extension, but if you've got it handy, you might as well take it just in case.

It's a pretty simple process and costs 500 THB. You'll end up with 2.5 pages of stamps in the new passport!! but you will have had your current extension transferred.
What do you mean by a multi entry extension? That you have a multi reentry permit as well? If so, your reentry permit will be transferred also.
One thing not to forget when you get your new passport is a letter from your embassy confirming that the new passport is genuine. HH Imm want to see that. (The Brit Emb issue for free).

Is that a recent requirement? I don't remember getting a letter or being asked for one.

(Having said that, I thought I renewed my passport a couple of years ago. Just checked, and it was in May 2009...)

It is a couple of years since I did mine, but I am sure that I had to copy EVERY page in my old passport. In fact, as there was a re-entry permit in the old one, I seem to recall that "madam" insisted on 2 copies of each page.

I do recall that I had asked the same "madam" prior to doing it, wrote the requirement down in a notebook, only to be told I was wrong! :banghead:

I'm quite glad this was brought up. I'm due to extend my retirement visa in December which is in my old, but still valid passport which is now full up due to working abroad. I pre-empted this and got myself a second passport last year knowing that this would be the case.

My question is, how do you go about getting this letter from the Brit Embassy and do I just supply the new passport number or have to send the whole passport off? Also, is there a form needed to be filled in or is it just a matter of a letter to them?

Just looked at the email the embassy sent me back in March this year. They required:
1. Scanned copies of the details pages of old and new passports (tell the truth, I can't remember whether I actually sent scans or simple photocopies).
2. The last date I entered Thailand
3. Type of visa
4. My address for mailing.

I sent a covering letter as well, obviously.

If you want to check that there have been no changes to these requirements since I did the transfer, email consularenquiriesbangkok@fco.gov.uk They've always been very good with their replies to me over the years.

Thanks a lot Lomu. I'll get right onto that on Monday.

When I was at immigration last month we had a long conversation about my passport expiring before my extension date next year and that requirement (for the embassy to provide a validation letter) was not mentioned. Just how new is this rule?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Ok folks, here's an update from within the last hour. Just got back from HH Immigration as the wife did her Retirement Visa extension. I asked the geezer who always sits at Desk 5 about my renewal in December and that it would need to go into a new passport. He quite clearly stated that YES, a letter of authentication for the new passport WOULD be needed from the Brit Embassy. For those of you who aren't Brits, he also said that it is the same for ALL farang.

Thanks for that, but it seems pretty silly as usual. It would be a lot easier to forge a letter saying your passport was authentic than to forge a passport itself... TIT! :banghead:
