When Did You Start Forgetting Stuff?

Post by GLCQuantum »

This is a strange one for me that I've had a close eye on over the last two months... Or was it three?

I've noticed that my short term memory is not what it used to be and am forgetting little things on a regular basis. By little things I mean, mostly, where I put something down, or what I went into the kitchen to get. That kind of stuff.

I have also, very recently, just had my first night of drunkeness where, upon waking, there was a portion of that night missing. The first time this happens is a very unnerving feeling.

I have come to the conclusion, after hours of carefully combing through the data at hand that, it's not actually me being more forgetful, but simply me being less focused on my day to day actions. I'll do things as if it were the same engrained action as flushing the toilet - no thought process has gone into it, therefore I can't track back and figure out what I did.

I'm 31 years old... This seems a little early to me to start forgetting stuff.

How about yourselves... Or are you all still sharp as a knife?

:rasta:

P.s. Maybe this should be in foo...

Yes, it certainly does. Try cutting back on the weed for starters. :rasta:

I of course factor that in when thinking about the issue.

Bud or no bud though (sometimes I go a good month without... *shock* *horror*) it's still the same ,so I can't pinpoint the forgetfulness to that unfortunately. Would be very easy if that was all it was.

I'm almost certain it's just to do with having a mundane routine. I do things robotically. At work, it never happens as I'm always on my toes thinking about stuff. At home, it's a different matter.

Currently, it's more comical than anything else as it's new to me. I don't want it evolving into a hair pulling annoyance though.

I'll google it when I can be bothered to sieve through all the pages for an answer.

Our memories can be very selective. In the case of a severe trauma our brains will not allow us to remember until we are ready to deal with the issue.

Drugs or alcohol will dull the events and therefore the memory

I also know that certain things become irrelevant or not practiced and therefore we forget. A good example for me would be telephone numbers, once important to remember but now irrelevant as everyone has phone which has a directory of important numbers. Same applies for minor birthdays that our phone, tablet, laptop or on line service will remind us and so they are irrelevant and therefore we have no need remember

Just as strange are some of the things we remember which we assume are irrelevant. As a young boy I would go shopping with my parents to a local co-op and where they had a membership number that entitled them to a yearly rebate. It's a 5 figure number that no one has used for 40+ years .....but I remember it .....why?

I started forgetting things about the same month I fell over three times for no apparent reason. I was in my early/mid 30s.

Sorry.

My father bought a car in 1946, I can tell you the registration number and the engine number now. I remember our first telephone number also in 1946 and our co- op number and my library number. I can recite the roll call names of the boys in my house at school. These were such hugely important things in my life. Today, I have trouble remembering my m/bikes number or WiFi codes. They are just numbers, they are not a memorable part of my life.

You are in a rut fella mundane life so have a smoke you are starting to have metal health issues.
I know and have known lots of people cane the weed and end up getting into quite deep depression some have come through it and some are lost causes.

Smoking on a low because your not happy with life is gentle self medication but coupled with booze does lead to massive mood swings and noticeable behaviour or even worse.

Prelonged abuse can really lead to long term psychoses that is irreversible, If you can share this on a public board you do have the courage to seek help in my opinion and I wish you luck with no judgement on passed tense.

In the absence of physiological effects such as a central nervous system trauma, viral infection or plausible family history of early onset neurological degeneration, it's probably the 'bud'. The fact that you don't take it for a month is irrelevant since there are dozens of THC metabolites that your body produces from the original toxin, which accumulate and cause damage that is generally poorly reported by the literature.

Paranoia, psychoses, aggression, irritability and diminished cognition (including chronic forgetfulness) are common adverse events attributed to long term THC ingestion. In the absence of any other cause, along with the lack of clinically-substantiated data surrounding the use or abuse of illegal drugs, this is a logical cause.

IMO it's the boredom factor and frustration with your lot as you have said in a previous thread. It's nowt to do with booze and weed. Your current routine is tedious, boring, frustrating and almost automatic so why should you remember such insignificant details? Your retentive memories remembers the good times and plays them back.

Lighten up and go out and get a life

Nowt to do with age. I can remember events when I was 3 years old (65 years ago) but I've forgotten what I did this week :)

I think the "bud" is a good thing for many people. It can be used for many medical conditions. The U.S. government says it has no medical benefits but for some strange reason they own the patent on cannabinoids. https://www.google.com/patents/US6630507.

If you research how and why it became illegal (at least in the states) you will come to find that it was mostly lies and scare tactics that helped make it illegal. http://www.drugwarrant.com/articles/why ... a-illegal/

Thank goodness the laws are changing and people can start to benefit from this great plant. Hopefully one day it won't be frowned upon and people can use the plant without having to worry about going to prison.

GLC, when I was 18, my job involved hundreds of people coming to see me daily. Whilst doing this 'mundane' job, I stopped looking at faces. Since that time I have had extreme difficulty with anybody's facial recognition. If I see somebody where I'm not expecting to see them, I just don't recognise them, and even if they start talking, it can take me several minutes to realise who they are. Of course, people think I'm being ignorant.

My assumption is that my brain just switched off the facial recognition part while I was doing a very mundane task for a few months, and has never switched that part back on. As far as I know, everything else works fine

Drink when you are feeling good to feel great.

It also usually works in the opposite direction.

I'm old as dirt and I still remember my combination lock numbers from middle school as well as my service number that was issued to me at 18 by the U.S. Navy, and yes I did :rasta: for about ten years from my mid 20's to mid 30's but not daily. I had friends who stayed high much of every day and they couldn't even remember their own name.

Funny thing for me these days, my short term memory is worse than my long term.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
