Re: VCR to DVD
I have very nice Sony vcr for sale if you can figure out how to hook it up to a dvd player.
Re: VCR to DVD
I am not sure, but you could try one of the major Kodak shops. They just might be able to help you. You could also try the upper floor of Market Village, e.g. the Banana computer and electronics shop, or one of the smaller shops. If they cannot do it they just might know someone who can. It takes a piece of equipment that I have not seen around Hua Hin. Last (or first) resort; Google.th.Jack Sprat wrote:Does anyone know where I can get a VCR tape recorded onto a DVD/memory stick?

Good luck, and let us know how you are doing.

Re: VCR to DVD
I bough a device to record video to my computer.

Hooked it up to an old VCR player and transferred videos to DVD.
Cost about $80 U/S and took some time but I was also able to edit.
I saw one for sale at a computer shop in the Hua Hin Mall computer floor.

Re: VCR to DVD
Many thanks all,
Sorry, I should have pointed out.....I have a VCR player, which unfortunately doesn't work.
My plan was to connect this VCR to a DVD player (a DVD player that can record of course)....and Hey presto job done.
Unfortunately, my VCR is toasted, so I wondered if there was anywhere in Hua Hin that might be able to do this for me.
Alternatively, I could try to get my VCR player serviced.....anyone know of a good place to get this done?

Re: VCR to DVD
Years ago when I first came here I tried to buy a VCR and there was none to be found so I think it would be a tall order to find one here now except from someone who brought it from another country.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: VCR to DVD
Hello expatsally,
I am looking for a vcr, but with a 2 speed facility. I have a lot of tapes that were recorded
at half speed, and haven't been able to watch them for years.
Do you, or anyone else have such a machine for sale?

Re: VCR to DVD
Jack, it may not be as easy as just plugging one device into the other, depending on what it is you want to copy across. Many commercially released videos employed a copy-protection mechanism called 'macrovision' that means you will get a virtually unusable copy, if you get one at all. There are methods for defeating this but it requires some specialist kit, which while not too expensive might be hard to find in the LOS. If it's just home videos or stuff that you've recorded from the TV etc. then it should be fine although you will have to find a 'region-free' DVD player and one that is compatible with your TV standard (NTSC for the US and PAL for most of Europe (the French used to use SECAM)).Jack Sprat wrote:Many thanks all,

M_right's suggestion is probably the best way to go. You can now pick-up these analogue-to-digital converters for less than $20 at Amazon and this will allow you to digitize the films, which you can then burn to DVD or watch through a media streaming device or even directly onto a TV via the requisite cable from your PC. Unfortunately, there is no 'quick' way to capture films from VHS so everything has to be done in real time and is a real ball-ache. If your art house collection includes 'Melancholia' or 'Death in the Land of the Ecantos', you're going to be there for days..!
It would appear that finding a working VHS is your first biggest hurdle. There are mail order services in Europe and the US that will do this type of thing for you and it may be worth seeing if a similar system exists in Bangkok, perhaps a store at MBK or the like could help?
