Govt water supply in Thailand

Post by migrant »

Here, in So California, the water from the tap is drinkable, but not tasty so most use bottled water to drink, but cook with tap water.

I was wondering what people use with their piped in water, if anything, to filter it? If filtered is it drinkable, or just used to cook, wash dishes and vegtables, etc

Thanks!

We use a filter system from Amway of all places, go figure.... After the filtration the water is fine to drink, cook, brush your teeth.... Bottle it to take with you when you travel around... Basically one filter does it all on one facet (kitchen)... I have been using one for 2yrs now with no issues!! Highly recommend this to you.... If interested in getting one, I have an Amway person available if you need one...

I agree Amway is excellent even have a girl from Prambury who comes to change filter at just cost
Initial layout bit expensive but filters last a long time
Must admit I do cook with normal tap water and I am still alive

We have used normal unfiltered tap water (except for sediment filtration) for everything except drinking for the last ten years, even washing fruit and veggies, with no known harmful effects, although some chemical or heavy metal effects don't show up until years later.

From reading online some of those can even have an effect over time just showering as they can slowly absorb through the skin, so I guess a whole house filter would be the safest route. We did have one of those, but as mentioned above it was just to take out the sediment so that the water was clear; not fine enough to filter out chemicals or bacteria.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

We had two of those 6 stage, reverse osmosis filters fitted when the house was built around 14 years ago.
The system is fitted inside kitchen units and delivers clean water to the salad sink to wash fruit and veg that is not going to be cooked, and is also connected to the fridge chilled water and ice making system. Normally, these systems come with a 15 litre tank but we went for a 30 litre holding tank instead, as when we have a full house, a lot of drinking water is used and that can come from the salad sink tap if necessary.

Mains water, is also past through a separate, 3 stage particulate filter and used to supply the hot water system for showers, baths and hand washing etc. as no need to fully filter it, as heating the water gets rid of the bugs. A separate, 6 stage system, supplies the cold water supplies to the taps of all the bathrooms.

The wife insisted on fitting a 2 stage particulate filter for the water supply to the washing machine! So I did, to keep her sweet. :D

Also, father in law fitted a De-Ionising filter to one of the outside taps, so that when he washes his and our car (which he insists on doing on every visit) then he uses the De-Ionised water for the final rinse, which negates the need to wipe the car dry and stops smears and water drop marks.
He is a bit OCD when it comes to clean cars. :?
He is also the one that decides when the filters need changing on these systems and often turns up with a box of new filters and proceeds to change them. Fine by me and it keeps him happy. :rasta:

Personally, I would never drink unfiltered mains water in Thailand, but each to his own.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
