Happy Pig on 94 is famous for particularly their ribs.

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
being a American I know good USA style ribs. Sadly Terrace 90 had great USA style ribs but they just closed down.
happy pig on sol 94 is good also, but they are not American style BBQ. Great ribs, just not USA BBQ flavor.
any others out there?

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
Most places I have been here, not all, just seem to use some sort of ketchup based marinade and toss them straight on the bbq. They need a dry rub followed by a homemade marinade (If I can't find chipotle I use smoked paprika) for a few hours then 2-3 hours in a foil parcel in the oven before going on the bbq to sticky up basted in that blackstrap molasses and brown sugar based sauce. Made myself hungry now.

Would tend to agree - has been my experience in Thailand, and certainly whilst I was in China it was the US BBQ sauce.... simply ketchup with a little seasoning. Whilst it could be tasty, certainly not a true BBQ sauce (even for "us Brits"! ).....crazy88 wrote:Most places I have been here, not all, just seem to use some sort of ketchup based marinade and toss them straight on the bbq.
Also agree with regards to using a "dry rub" - makes a hell of a difference.

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
Is this correct?? Or have they just closed temporarily?Sadly Terrace 90 had great USA style ribs but they just closed down.
This is the way
Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
AFAIK it is permanent - I left them off the Soi 94 map, but somebody suggested it was only a temporary closure. I went back to check, and it was locked up, with a 'building for rent' sign outside.

Such a shame. Last post from them at the end of March was:
Terrace 90 will be closed for Spring Cleaning an extended holiday starting 29 March

Molasses in Villa or Makro. Makes great toffee and gravies as well.

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
As a rib lover I think I tried all of them that were there up until the latter part of last year. While there were many that were good only two came close to American style as mentioned above. Terrace 90 had the best in that department. The second best was the "Maxican" place just off Soi 94. The owner/chef learned at T90 as he used to be a cook there. It's next door to Korat Kitchen and admittedly it's not a pleasant place to eat as it's a house turned restaurant and you sit in the carport with the owner's many dogs. I always got the ribs to go... they're better eaten at home anyway... at home you can eat them in your underwear and not worry about the mess.
Now I'm in barbecue heaven... with good ribs and pulled pork on nearly every street corner!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
That's got to be a downer for the HH expat community! Unfortunately I (or the LHG) ever went there, but from what I understand from comments from friends and from the forum (not that you're not friends!! ), it was a great place, with great food and service.... and more importantly, was always fairly busy.JamesWest wrote:Sadly Terrace 90 had great USA style ribs but they just closed down.
My question therefore is what the **** happened? If an established restaurant with good reviews and clearly good food can't make it in HH.....

Re: BBQ Pork Ribs
I would guess it was no more than the obvious saturation effect. Too many restaurants and not enough punters, with new restaurants opening weekly. You can only cut the pie so many times.
