Hi Itkman, I bought mine in my partners name, so I’m not sure about the paperwork to register a car as a farang, but the red plate comes from the dealership and you keep it until the registration is complete.

As a farang you will need your YELLOW house-book and your passport as documentation when you want to buy a car.
Another good point is to bring money!!

What do you do if you already have the vehicle and paid for it with the last of your money and you live in a PINK house. Does this mean you have to get a job and paint the house?

Bought my car in MY name a couple of years ago.
Passport with non-imm-visa and house-registration (confirmed place of residency in TH) was all I had to show....and "Yes", as Norseman said already, I had to bring money

If you're buying a new car from a dealer, make sure they include one (1) year free first class insurance. They usually do but sometimes you have to insist. The long term benefit of this is that you automaticaly have a relationship with an insurance company you can renew through easily as the years go by. I've asked around and it seems car insurance here is not as competitive as in the West. Most all charge very similar rates for the same coverage. Pete
