Kasikornbank to shut down for 48 hours, July 17-19

Post by buksida »

Kasikornbank has announced to will temporarily suspend all services, except credit cards, from 10pm on July 17, a Friday, until 10pm July 19, a Sunday, to enable upgrading of its overall banking system.

The bank put up a notification on its website informing its customers that the suspended services included ATM and debit cards, K-express cash, K-web shopping cards, all ATM machines, passbook update machines, and all electronic channels including mobile banking. All branches will be closed.

The bank's ATM cards cannot be used with the machines of other banks during the period. Only the bank's credit cards can be used.

The bank advised its customers to plan their transactions ahead, so they are not affected, and to ensure they had sufficient cash available to tide them over the 48 hours

Quite amusing this morning. I was sat outside of Mrs BB's bank waiting for her to do whatever it is she does in there (only ever goes in there to have her book updated with her Thai OAP).

Anyway, it was about 10:55, and there were loads of people milling around outside of Kasikorn. So many that I assumed the shut down must have been for electronic services only. By 11:05 the penny was starting to drop - people were drifting away with a 'what am I going to do' look on their faces, but new people kept joining the crowd. I didn't wander down to have a look, but surely they put a notice on the door.

Additionally I walked past several green ATMs with people stood staring and scratching their heads.

Quite clearly, the publicity for the shutdown has not been as good as it might have been.

The only place I've seen it was on the Forum, which directed me to the Bangkok Post, and the in branch TV, where it was hidden amongst a lot of other ads.

I actually save all SMS that I receive (in English) from Kasikorn. I've scrolled back over 2 months - nothing.

Not disbelieving you Pete, but I didn't see it anywhere else. Judging by what I saw this morning, I've not been the only one going around with my eyes closed.

The beeping SMS turned out to be a beeping Facebook update alert I'm told. She's subscribed to their page I guess.

Saw messages on their website, in the paper, on the ATM screen. Maybe some didn't believe, take note or understand what they were seeing.
I admit I had to tell my girlfriend as she wasn't aware.

I too was fully aware of this, but still forgot when it came to it!

Still, it could have been worse, the missus paid for the shopping and lent me 3000 baht just in case!

In case it's of any use to anyone I noticed someone using a Kasikorn ATM earlier this afternoon to do a transfer. So maybe the upgrade is all done already.

Cheers.

Think it must be as their internet banking site is up and running again.
