Am I correct in thinking all this is linked to Prayut's Beach 'inspection' here in H.H. on the 28th..?
If so I'm now thinking will this visit still go ahead when he's due to attend the state funeral in Singapore on the 29th..?

Richard, you are quite correct. There is no curfew. 12 am (midnight) is the legal closing time for bars except in zoned areas. Extra hours were at the discretion of the police (tea money) and always have been. The 'government' are here at the end of the week so of course it's going be seen that HH is following the law.

But now all is back as before, bars are closing at 2 a.m. and the police has to be paid for it by the bars.

interesting to watch some of the drama in the bar scene as the police do their thing.
you really need to have a good understanding of local "customs" to run/own a bar here. :D Best to have a wife or girlfriend with a family member to "help" you. A new bar owner just told me he got hit with the old "no license for music" fine. 30,000 baht! I am thinking the new guys get beat up in the first six months until they learn the ropes. Not sure how you factor that into your business plan.

Yeah I'm off Cat Bar for a while...

A few bar owners on soi 80 said they're closing at 12 tonight.
The same was said for Poon Suk and Selakam.

Blows the whole weekend with the rain yesterday.

Never been drinking in 94. Will have a look another day...

Any ideas if it will be getting back to the usual 2:00 finish anytime soon?

Surely tea money to the BIB is reduced if the bars are closing 2 hours early?

soi 94 is quiet and inexpensive. a few places not pushing drinks for ladies.
i have not seen a uniform 2am finish in a long time... the law says midnight. some bars push the rules.
the cops do their thing. everybody gets weird for a while. so i don't know.
but i just go to Pattaya now for a week every 90 days. :) and the time in between is recovery. :)
so not haunting HH so much any more.
