Hospitals in Hua Hin
Hospitals in Hua Hin
Hey all!,
I have a question from you more experienced xpats, What is a reasonable bospital here in Hua Hin?
I just went to one yesterday (name with-held) And for the same services I have been receiving in Chiang Mai at the McCormick hospital I was charged nearly three (3) times as much.... 2,600baht there versus 8,800baht here.... (Hua Hin).. Ouch!!
Any Ideas will be well read.....
Thank You....

Hi mchkin,i have had total knee replacement done in Bangkok hospital Hua Hin. However, i would not go there for anything other than major surgery. The San Paulo and Hua Hin hospital are recommended for other ailments,in my opinion.
Re: Hospitals in Hua Hin
I have learnt the hard way with private hospitals. Their interest is towards their shareholders. A well person doesn't pay bills; neither does a dead one. Once they've got you, it's hard to get away again. They were really annoyed when I sorted a 12 month problem within 3 days. Yes, there is no doubt I needed surgery, but the healing process was being prolonged.
It's public hospital care for me from now on, and from what I've seen, I've been impressed so far.

I definitely recommend the Hua Hin public hospital between soi 10 an 12.

WHY? Do you have shares in this hospital. Name the hospital. Bangkok Hospital is expensive but good. San Paulo is a little less expensive but crap. Hua Hin Hospital is the cheapest and the service is very good. It is a government hospital so you have to expect long queues unless you pay the 'Express Service (200 baht)mchkin wrote: I just went to one yesterday (name with-held)
Re: Hospitals in Hua Hin
Yes, Hua-Hin Hospital is no longer the hospital it once was. Today it is just as geared up as the two other hospitals in the area, and way cheaper. As has already been mentioned, a small 200 baht surcharge will also help you to avoid long queues.
And, if you're concerned about major health problems, don't worry because Hua-Hin Hospital will refer you to a hospital in Bangkok if you have a problem they are not capable of dealing with. A lady friend of mine was examined at Hua-Hin Hospital and they discovered three brain tumors. She was immediately referred to a hospital in Bangkok where, sadly, they discovered that all three tumors were cancerous, and that the cancer had already spread to her lungs. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do for her, but at least they didn't try to milk her for every baht they could get.
If Hua-Hin Hospital can't treat you, they will say so, but I'm not so sure the other two local hospitals would be as honest.

^I agree, in the last few years living there (after the upgrade) I think Hua Hin hospital is the best in town, certainly for the money.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Hospitals in Hua Hin
I had a very very bad experience at Hua Hin Bangkok hospital, I was diagnosed with an advanced malignant melanoma, and immediately scheduled for major surgery the next day. I called my health insurance company in Bangkok and was advised to go straight to Bumrungrad in Bangkok, where the insurance company would arrange a consultation with an oncologist.
I cancelled the op, much to the annoyance of the Doctor, who lost his temper and then refused to hand over my lab test results.
After further tests and re-evaluation of the original tests which my insurance company eventually managed to get from Hua Hin Bangkok hospital (it took them 4 days) it turned out that he had misread the results, the advanced malignant melanoma was in fact not advanced, it was stage 1a as opposed to the stage 3 he told me it was, he hadnt looked at the second page of the report which contained a detailed analysis of the biopsy. When I confronted him with this a few weeks later, he said he was running late and had been in a hurry that day!!!!!!! Naturally there was nothing resembling an apology. It was more like "I was in a hurry, what did you expect?"
I had a relatively simple operation to remove the melanoma and the surrounding tissue. Had I stayed at Hua Hin Bangkok hospital, I would have ended up having major surgery to remove the lymph glands from my armpit and possible my chest wall.
The unprofessionalism of the Doctor and the staff at Hua Hin Bangkok hospital was quite shocking.
This was 3 years ago and I still get a cold shiver when I drive past the place thinking about what might have been.
One year ago, my wife, a Thai, suffered some worrying dizzy spells and went there to see a Doctor, within 10 minutes she had been referred to a neurologist who organised a MRI, this was done quickly and efficiently and she had the results within an hour (nothing found), her visit, including the MRI was remarkably cheap compared to my little biopsy and 2 short consultations with the Doctor.
Make of the above what you will, maybe I just saw my Doctor on a bad day or maybe he really was incompetent and negligent.
But thanks to the diligence of my insurance company, I avoided an unnecessary major operation followed by having to live with the knowledge that I had a stage 3 cancer possibly spreading around my body.
I have always believed that although Thailand has some wonderfully well equipped hospitals, the diagnosing abilities of their Doctors is very hit and miss and they do not follow Western protocols of diagnosis except at the very best hospitals, which are all found in Bangkok.
For minor ailments and routine complaints, I would be happy to be seen at the government hospital in Hua Hin, I will never go to Hua Hin Bangkok hospital again though, and I would always seek a second opinion either from a hospital like Bumrungrad, (and bugger the expense) or via a phone call to my GP in the UK or a friend of mine there who is a doctor.

Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok seems to be the place to go for anything serious...
go on their web site and make a appointment and off you go.
i had a good experience there...
the last time i had a doctor try to rush me into surgery was in Belize for appendicitis which i did not have.
and yes doctors will perform unnecessary surgery deliberately just for the cash...

Re: Hospitals in Hua Hin
Hello,
I had my tongue checked for possible symptoms of oral cancer at BANGKOK HOSPITAL.
The ENT specialist checked my mouth, prescribed a special ointment and referred me to the dentist to remove any irritating edges on the tooth nearest to the laceration.
The combined treatment had the desired result. The pertinacious laceration disappeared.
I have also had two crowns fitted.
The dentists, and the head of the Dentistry Department in particular are top notch.
I have never had better treatment in Germany.
The charming lady who is also qualified as a maxillo-facial surgeon even went to Germany to expand her knowledge and skills at a top German university.
I can supply her name which I can't remember right now.
Kind regards,
MB aka 'Mike the Fritz'
