The night market in the alley that runs next to City Beach Hotel has a few stalls selling fake watches. They're not very good (I have two watches that were available there as fakes) and have cheap Chinese seagull movements (I asked). Some seagull movements are very good. Had one myself in a real watch, but what you get in the fakes is the cheap as chips version.

Oh come on, how do you make that out?

Is caller saying anything other than the fake watches are crap while not questionning the quality of some genuine watch movements (not found in fake watches)? Does caller in any way represent "This forum"?

I would like to hear his thoughts on the "fake shirts" question though.

A shirt is a shirt. It's only the label that is fake. :duck:

Ha-ha! I don't have any interest in fake shirts! :D

I don't have any interest in fake watches either apart from disliking them and failing to understand there attraction? For the same price as a fake, you can buy a 'homage watch' (I don't care for them much either), say by a company called Parnis, or numerous others, but Parnis are as cheap as the fakes, but you'll get a better quality watch, better movement and it will actually look like a Rolex, it won't be as good, obviously and will just have Parnis written on the watch instead of Rolex.

Probably worth pointing out here than I'm not a huge fan of Rolex either. I like the way some look and respect the quality etc. but having tried many on, I haven't found one that I would want to own, apart from the ones I can't afford that is.

As for this forum promoting fakes, I think that's rubbish. Thailand is a major producer of fake and counterfeit goods and if they really wanted to stamp that out, they could. But they don't. In this thread, the forum is just reflecting life in Thailand where fake and counterfeit goods are a fact of life. For example there's a large market between Bkk and Korat on highway 362, 'north' of Saraburi, where pretty much everything is fake. My other half bought a Chelsea shirt and shorts there for 150B!

That of course was meant to be 'tongue in cheek'.

However, the law states that anyone 'promoting counterfeit goods' is committing a criminal act!!!

But TIT and as long as there are buyers then there will always be sellers.

In the UK we have 'tribute' acts that mimic the original artists, Elvis impersonators etc. Nobody thinks it is the real Elvis.
I prefer to call these watches 'tribute watches', nobody is trying to pass off these watches as the real thing either.
