Three-year-old dies after being left in school van

Post by PeteC »

This is so sad and so infuriating at the same time I want to scream! What the HELL is wrong with this place, people's sense of responsibility and mentality? I won't be able to get this out of my head for days. Pete

EDIT: Yes, I know. Even in the good old USA and other countries irresponsible parents leave their kids unattended in a hot, locked car, and they are usually charged with manslaughter. Here I doubt that will happen.

I really struggle to find words to describe this totally avoidable and terrible tragedy, resulting in an excruciatingly slow and painful death of a three year old child. The problem as mentioned is not confined to Thailand. It horrifies me to think that without early Police/Good Samaritan intervention In Australia the instances of fatalities would be much higher also.

From Coconuts:

"Sadly, Nong Ing was not the first kindergartner to die due to the recklessness of school staff. In May 2013, a 3-year-old boy, “Nong Potter”, died after being left by his teacher for seven hours in a school van in Si Saket province.

Also in 2013, another 3-year-old girl died the same way in Samut Prakarn. Two teachers were charged over her death, Bangkok Post reported."

Unfortunately, in many Thai school's, the kid's best interests aren't dealt with first; instead it's the interests of the uniform wearing teachers and the self-important attitude that comes with that.

With the knowledge and history of how most Thai teachers have dealt with my Autistic Son, I have to agree wholeheartedly with your comment.

Very sad story - what goes through these people's minds (if anything)?! :banghead:

Very true - we had a case in the UK a couple of years ago where the father had left his young son (2 or 3 from memory) in a car on a hot summer's day whilst he "popped into the local" for a beer or 3. Luckily an observant passer-by saw the danger, broke into the car and alerted the police. The father was certainly prosecuted, but I can't honestly remember the punishment. Mind you, the PC brigade probably sought a conviction for the passer-by damaging the car!!

Well here's what will happen to you in Australia:

Dad fined $5000 for leaving son, 3, in hot car

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/ ... n-hot-car/

A man who left his three-year-old son in a hot car has been fined $5000 in Fremantle Magistrates Court today.

Earlier this year, the man left his son strapped in a car seat in full sunlight on a 39C day while he went into a busy shopping centre.

A passer-by alerted authorities after noticing the boy inside the car looking distressed.
When attempts to contact the father failed, security guards smashed their way into the car to rescue the boy, who by that time had been in the vehicle for 20 minutes.

St John Ambulance assessed the boy who was not physically harmed.
The father returned to his car about an hour after he had parked at the centre.
Defence lawyer Ross Williamson said his client underestimated the time he would spend in the shopping complex and was extremely remorseful.

In sentencing, Magistrate Elizabeth Langdon said the maximum penalty for the offence was a $36,000 fine or three years imprisonment.

Oh come off it, pharvey, that's way out of order!
I'm not even sure who you're referring to. The left? Libtards? Migrant support workers? Socialists in general?

:cuss: :cuss: I m never shocked these days by the "scumbag" society we have in this world today :cuss:
Here was another recent " event" where these "women" left a child in a car and went to a strip club!!

Thank God I was raised in the days of Enid Blyton :)

Unfortunately, no it's not. Shall I call them something else?

[EDIT] Unlike yourself (with zero offence DM) I now live in the UK and have daily cr@p with the "PC Brigade" ... do you in Thailand?

Certainly did not want to take anything away from the seriousness of the original post/story, so my apologies if my post seamed the case.

Another abomination with a school child and van that I missed when first published, I guess last week. How attentive the driver is?! :cuss: :(

The following goes with Pete's post:

Kids falling out of school bus vans: Time for reform

Frightening CCTV footage of young children falling out of the back of school vans in past week has drawn attention to safety issues.

Kids falling out of school bus vans: Time for reform

Post Reporters

New safety measures have been set up for school buses nationwide following a series of frightening school bus - related accidents in the past week.

It is worth keeping in mind that school buses (rot rong-rian) in Thailand are typically vans run by small private business operators with apparently little or no regulation.

School bus-related accidents in Thailand reportedly claim many lives and send countless children to hospital emergency rooms for medical treatment each year.

Figures from the Road Safety Group Thailand showed seven school bus accidents had taken place nationwide, killing four people and injuring 90 between January and May this year.

In my last school in Samut Sakhon, 3 kindergarten kids were killed when the school van hit a train. Never even made the news. If I had kids, they would never be seeing the inside of a minivan in Thailand.
