Soi 80 Walking Street?
Soi 80 Walking Street?
Somebody told me today that he'd heard someone say that he'd been told of a rumour that Soi 80 was going to get a bit of walking street treatment as well. Does anyone have anything to add to give this rumour a bit of life?
Re: Super hero's on Bintabaht
Not sure that would be such a good idea - many people need transport to and from Soi 80, and it doesn't have a major problem with traffic at present.heard someone say that he'd been told of a rumour that Soi 80 was going to get a bit of walking street treatment as well
Stringing loads of extra lights across the Soi might be an affordable way of creating atmosphere - paving it would be very expensive though..
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly...
Re: Soi 80 Walking Street?
It would be impractical for the residential area behind the main Soi 80 drag.

Not only Thais are dead brain, but many farangs too. Soi 80 has 2 parallel sois with residents on both. What about them ???? Selfish farangs.

I can report that Soi 80 is a walking street every Wednesday, not all of it is cut off though. About 1/4 of the way up to 3/4. They have music and I would say it works very well.

Sorry, I was being selfish. Works for me, maybe I should have put that... busier and less likely for me to get run over by a motor bike or tuk tuk.europtimiste wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2017 11:16 amWorks very well !!! For whom ??? The walking street is closed now on Soi 80, and has been for about 6 weeks.
No facts about it's life after low season ... different views on what will happen in November
Some think it will reappear, some think it's a goner forever.
FAIR WARNING: HEARD FROM A BAR OWNER: When it first started it was a bit of a novelty and seemed very busy. That eurphoria trickled out a bit but the Soi was definitely hopping after 11pm ... more so than other nights. The folks on the 'living side' of Soi 80 were pretty cool with it on the whole ... especially as it was only a one-day-a-week affair.
In the beginning there was started a bar owners "committee" which organized the thing and each bar contributed money to keep it going.
After some months some of the bars opted out on the contribution fee (probably the bars which were never busy anyway).
And that's where the Walking Street is now. What happens in early November will tell. It was always a bit of an experiment anyway.

Just one more reason why I love living in Thailand ...

slightly off topic , but is Soi 80 any better than binta baht for bars? Looking for a bit of variety for the next time I'm in Hua Hin

Soi 80-- its Cheaper, parking m/bike easier-- Its better for watching sports-- the quantity of girls the same, quality may be a little less, but how many do you need any one night.
