Having not read the article, I can only conjecture.
Would reckon it refers to the area between The Hilton and the fishing pier. This has been a perrenial subject of conversation for as long as I can remember - that's 7 years.
The legal theory is that the restaurants are squatting, which I believe they are. However, they are "owned" now by senior political and military figures. Hence, nothing happens.
The big hotels would like to build a promenade for the well heeled tourists and take away about the only part of HH that's left.
Make your own mind up.

it was much nicer when the hilton wasn,t there with beach huts you could rent and no crap in the water

The area of beach immediately next to the 'restaurant' area on its North side (towards the pier) is bad news if you have kids, with loads of bottle tops, broken glass and other detritus from the restaurant area. Quaint it might be but safe it ain't. If the restaurants took more responsibility for cleaning up the crap they generate then maybe they wouldn't be under so much pressure to have the place permanently cleaned up!

On re-reading this thread, I thought I might be thinking about another part of the beach - the deck chair 'restaurant' area. Agree with lomuamart though if this is talk about removing the restaurants on the old squid piers - that would be a shame. I could be wrong but I can't imagine their sanitary accommodation does anything other than flow into the gulf either though!

Judging from what happened to Pattaya in the 1970's, there should be a cause for concern for all of us. Unfortunately, many people who make money along the beach front are not concerned about the ecological or long term effects of their deeds. Hua Hin, in most parts, has escaped the deterioration of that magnitude until now becasue it has remained mainly a family retreat. It will be hard to fight the environment degradation if the beach front keeps getting developed......

The last I heard was that it's in the (justice) system. Witneses have been called, the end of May is when a verdict may or may not be read.

Bar talk, the sooner it happens the better though, move all the bars up near Rockestre so the families can come to Hua Hin and enjoy the town.

Answer: They can .... but only for the ten minutes it takes for the kids to get bored! Funny how the beach is so....samey but the kids will happily stay there all day!

Kids never get bored on the beach, wives never get bored at the shops, but BOTH get bored almost instantly we enter a bar!

Then again, if getting a leisurely beer was easy, it wouldn't taste so good -- or at least, that's what I keep telling myself!
