It's has all ready been very well thought out. At the first sign of trouble the Thai navy is going to roll out that aircraft carrier and ride it to the rescue. Those other ships with the Christmas tree lights hanging all over them will need to stay on station.

if the navy can find the ignition key to start the carrier or maybe, by then, they'll have purchased one of those, used only by a little old lady to go to church on sunday, Chinese submarines that have rubber band propeller drives and run on rice bran oil.

Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry project hits first hurdle
Pattaya City Council was told on Tuesday the Marine Department was being too hasty in launching the proposed ferry service between Pattaya and Hua Hin, because the docking facilities would not be ready in time.

The opposition emerged a little more than two weeks after the department's director-general Sorasak Sansombat announced approval had been given for a private company to operate the Pattaya-Sattahip-Cha-am-Hua Hin ferry service.

It was scheduled to start on Jan 1 as a New Year gift for the public, Mr Sorasak said. Authorities were currently inspecting the firm’s readiness to provide the service, upgrading the ports and finalising fares.

However, at a meeting of the Pattaya City Council on Tuesday, some members criticised the project as being too hasty, and opposed the use of Laem Bali Hai pier in South Pattaya for the service.

Councillor Sinchai Wattanasartsathorn said the Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry project resurfaced last year when ACM Prajin Janthong was still transport minister.

The then-transport minister had set up a team that made an on-site survey in Pattaya and concluded that Laem Bali Hai pier was not suitable for use because of issues related to docking, safety, car parking space and accessibility, plus the impact on traffic in the area.

The team had proposed that the departure port be moved to Sattahip Commercial Port (also known as Jook Samet Port) under the navy’s supervision in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district.

Wonder if the then-transport minister had set up a team that made an on-site survey in Hua Hin and concluded that the pier was not suitable for use because of issues related to car parking space and accessibility, plus the impact on traffic in the area????

Pattaya - Hua Hin ferry could be a dead duck even before it starts as local authority warns of damaged pier

Local authorities in Pattaya think that the much hyped plans for a boat service to Hua Hin could be a dead duck even before the first service starts.

It is all because of the state of the jetty in South Pattaya.

The jetty in Laem Bali Hai is severely damaged after being used by 10,000 people a day and is an accident waiting to happen, it has been claimed.

Despite a budget for repairs the Pattaya authorities are suggesting that this is not the time to start the service and are calling for further inspections to be carried out before even the chance of permission to operate is considered.

The much hyped service hailed as a boon for tourism between the two Gulf of Thailand resorts was due to start as early as January 1st.

This now looks unlikely due to the state of the pier.

Manager reported that despite the harbor authority being gung-ho about the service there are serious reservations from other Pattaya officials who would need to give their permission for the service to get off the ground.

Some have said that the pier could be dangerous.

Others have claimed that the service is overpriced and many claim that it would not be a safe option or as quick as the operators claim especially when embarking and disembarking are added into the equation.

Originally thought to be for vehicles as well as people some think that the service is being rushed and that a passenger only boat will not be economically viable anyway.

This latest news makes me laugh.

Have they closed the pier to the 10,000 passengers a day because it is nolonger safe? Will the 'accident waiting to happen' only happen when the just under 200 passengers (if the ferry is full) make it 10,200 passengers a day?

I think we all know the answers. TIT

Congress Disagreed Pattaya-Huahin Ferry
Mr Thanet Supparahatrungsi, Pattaya congressman, said that Marine Department recently promotes Pattaya-Huahin ferry in 2017.

However, he believed that it’s not good time to open the ferry route because Bali Hai pier was constructed in 2003 and it had supported around 10,000 tourists for a long time. As a result, it has been deteriorated and needs renovation.

Pattaya city just received 30 million baht for renovation; however, it’s believed that might cause the problem again.

Mr Sinchai Wattanasartsatorn, Pattaya congressman, said that Pattaya-Huahin ferry used to be proposed in Gen Prachin Chantong was minister of transportation; however, the congress agreed that it’s not appropriate because of dock problem, traffic and safety.

Later there was a scheme to relocate ferry dock to Chuksamed; however, it was brought back to Bali Hai pier.

So it looks like it will be a circular ferry going around in ever decreasing circles until it goes up it's own as there is nowhere to dock at either side.

I was just down at the jetty and saw the sign which states the development is going to be shops, restaurants, mall etc with harbor front. No mention of a ferry service. a long way from being complete.

Yes. Huahin.go.th. It's not that much good for news. However, I spotted this link that BB might be interested in.
