What is your favorite bar and why ?

Post by Pjolter »

Since 2014 I was visiting Hua Hin regularly. Many months every year. I see that many bars has changed names.
My favorite bar was on soi 80 Wings , The Kiss and The Golden. Good music , friendly staff and reasonable
beer prices. On soi Bintabaht I had a very good time at London bar , Paradise , Bentho and Havana club.
Nice ladies and good music.

L like Hua Hin bar on 80, big bar, nice and airy, good TV for sports, good prices, comfortable chairs and comfortable girls, has a ST room too.

Don't come down from Bangkok often enough, but I did an afternoon stroll along Soi 80 just to see what all the fuss was about and spent a lazy afternoon with a few beers at a fairly large corner place, think it was the second corner up from the 7-11.
Another time I did have a beer or three at a place in Bintabaht, remember it was a two-storey wooden structure and was the only place in the whole area that was actually playing 80's music at a reasonable volume.

I'm getting too old to chase skirts but the girls can be fun once they know you can speak Thai..

Thai Wai. They have moved to a new location in khao Tao. (Turn first left after the railway lines, then 200 metres on the left) Richard and his Wife are great hosts. Good food and great music.

I guess I have to say Father Teds. Since I had a stomach operation before moving to Thailand, the only beer I can drink is Guinness (so that narrows my choice. The other places selling Guinness are either too loud to talk, or too far out of the way.

The food isn't bad, service is good, toilets are clean, price of normal beer is reasonable (OK, I have to pay an arm and a leg for my Guinness  ), and where else can you snuggle up around a log fire on a Hua Hin winter's evening :D ?

I have many favourite bars. Black Out as its opposite the Hotel I stay in and they are always friendly with great service and decent WI Fi to skype/facetime etc. Its also all above board in there so no chance of someone jumping on your lap at an inopportune moment. :tsk:

King Bar as the service is good especially since the mad but quite lovely lady that used to work in Atlantis, now works there. And also quite a good place to meet Ladies that are of the freelance variety....

Panama Bar as its friendly in a different way. Always a good atmosphere and lively. Have got greedy in there from time to time... :naughty:

Tina's Bar, one of my favourites, constant stream of new faces. Always been looked after in there very well but be careful in large crowds as the bills can get mixed up... thai style

Soi 80 I find very transient, quite like Hut Bar but things change quickly down there... have to keep your eyes peeled.

Rather boringly I usually drink Singha's followed by Rum and Cokes... so theres no chance of them messing them up. Not a fan of smelly toilets but I can hold my nose quite well, which is a feat in itself!

Anyway, not that i'm counting down or anything but 46 days, 6 hours, 35 seconds until i take off en route to HH, with a one night stop in BKK :D :D :D

So , Falanglongtime you are lucky man , soon going back to HH :)

I went many times to Panama bar and everything was OK , but one time they ripped me off. :(
I m sure. I was a little bit drunk , but remember everything . For 3 Leo beers, for me cost 80 or 90 baht per bottle.
And 2 ladies drinks thai whisky with water cost 150 baht max 180 baht for one drink. And the bill come over 900 baht
instead 630 + tip. Never mind I paid and I left the bar alone .I don't go there anymore. I understand drunk farang
have to pay always more. Thai logic. :(

Hi Pjolter,

I shall watch out for that - I think they sometimes try it on a bit, especially if they see you've had a few drinks. They usually put all your drink tabs in a jar, so you can always ask to have a look? I had a similar thing happened in Soi 80, i asked to look and the bar fine was 600 baht. " thats for tomorrow as well" That came straight off the bill. :tsk:

In November when I last came to HH, Panama Bar was very busy most nights, it was far too crowded to tempt me to enter. This bar seemed to pick up about 18 months ago, before that it used to be quiet, the increase in customers maybe because of the music played by the DJ? Customers brings girls and girls bring in customers, easy isn't it? :)

Many bars which used to be busy are now not so, bars such as Celtic, Toro, U-turn. Drifters was not very busy because no longer were the 39 baht beers on offer. Tina bar is usually ticking over nicely.
On Selekam, 2 small, not a lot of music (or talent)bars with plenty of customers are No Name Bar and Aurora Borealis.

A bar, any bar, is only as good as its customers. If the atmosphere, customer service, music, prices, etc. are good then people will go there regularly. Thus look for a bar that is regularly full with the type of person you like to be with and you have found a good bar!

Thanks for the update, i'll be there in March, I was getting a bit worried it was going to be quiet. I live near London so I'm used to crowded bars, so all good for me

After my last visit, i'm afraid to say Panama bar has been crossed off my list. Its moved over the road to a bigger premises, the musics louder, clientele younger. Had a nasty experience where a rather drunk bar girl, danced up against me for 5 seconds then proceeded to buy herself a drink and give me the bill. She wasn't best pleased when I gave it back to her. :tsk:

Almost all of the Bintabaht section seemed to have adopted a buy me dlink attitude, no problem buying a drink but thats more or less all thats on offer down there at the moment. Found soi 80 much more fun and particularly enjoyed Hua Hin Bar...

At some Binta bars you can have unpleasant surprises.
At Tina bar check carefully your bill.
At some other bars as Havana, your beer can cost less than 50 Baht, but a SangSom soda 180 Baht.
Lady drinks are not same at all bars. If you pay a beer 120 or 140 in some bars others will charge you 150.
In a bar at soi 80 a beer costs 60 and a SangSom soda or cola 80.......TIT....
