Hi,
We are looking at opening a lawn bowling club in Hua Hin and want to guage reaction/interest from Hua Hin expats.
The proposed club would be very near to Black Mountain Water Park and have a bar and restaurant, toilets and showers.
It would be built to International standards and have leagues and competitions running within a given time.
It would be under cover so much cooler and more comfortable than playing outside under the hot sun.
Please let me know your thoughts.
New Lawn Bowling Club
Re: New Lawn Bowling Club
I honestly do not think there are anywhere near sufficient players in the Hua HIn area to make this viable.
Courage is grace under pressure and when circumstances change you change your mind.
Re: New Lawn Bowling Club
I agree, going from virtually zero to having leagues and competitions running is a very ambitious investment.
Thailand being Thailand, if you show any glimmer of success, you will have to allow for a similar establishment opening next door as well

CJs has had a very good facility for several years. nice group meets a couple of mornings every week, but not very busy.

What's Lawn Bowling?
Re: New Lawn Bowling Club
As "lawn" is close mown turf (grass) I presume it is bowling on real grass as opposed to synthentic.
Prior Planning & Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Re: New Lawn Bowling Club
I appreciate all your replies and will try to answer some of them.
Regarding leagues and competitions: It would take some time but they actually have managed to do this in Ban Chang, Rayong within one month and only 2 or 3 had ever played before.
Number of players: Yes, of course we would be staring from virtually scratch but they did that in Pattaya 20 years ago and whilst that venue is no longer there because of the huge increase in rent, there are 2 newer venues on the outskirts of Pattaya as well as the new venue at Ban Chang about 35 minutes away.
Surface: it would be a synthetic grass and have a roof cover.

Your image is very impressive.
Not a bowler myself but think your target audience will probably be British/Australian/New Zealand. Dont think lawn bowls is big in Thailand, Europe or the States so your ex pat and local market is reduced considerably.
If you search this forum there are several threads about bowls and it appears that the market is very limited and previous projects have not been very successful.
If you were located in the middle of town then you might get lots of drop in holidaymakers but most of them wont travel out to Black Mountain.
Good luck with your project if you decide to go ahead but beware!

Re: New Lawn Bowling Club
So the only difference that you offer from CJs is the cover, CJs has an artificial rug too
