Don't you think he means his own family, as he's talking about maybe getting ripped off in future by the wife?Pagey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:13 amI don't understand that at all. Are you saying instead of putting it in your future wife's name you put it in the name of another member of her family ? Sounds very secure.........................bluelagoon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 12:25 am The best thing if you plan to get married, is to put the house in the name of a family member before marriage. I think whoever's name he puts it in, if the marriage goes to the wall he can probably say goodbye to most/everything404cameljockey wrote:Don't you think he means his own family, as he's talking about maybe getting ripped off in future by the wife?Pagey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:13 amI don't understand that at all. No because he is a foreigner and so will his family be, at least that was my presumption.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:43 amDon't you think he means his own family, as he's talking about maybe getting ripped off in future by the wife?Pagey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:13 amI don't understand that at all. I think some posts are at cross purposes. It's about ownership of a HOUSE as opposed to LAND.Pagey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 11:08 amNo because he is a foreigner and so will his family be, at least that was my presumption.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:43 amDon't you think he means his own family, as he's talking about maybe getting ripped off in future by the wife?

I knew Tell would come up with that one. As the poster wasn't clear I presumed he was talking about the whole package, land & house. Many people talk about having the 'house' in the wifes name or in a Thai company and they mean the whole package, not many people talk about them as two seperate entities.

Re: Farang buying a house with a Thai lady
That's what I said. he suggests the poster register the house ownership in one of his own family members' name, one of his brothers or something. You said 'her family'. Thanks to HHTel's post I see the confusion, you were talking about land also. Almost everyone on my development are farang husband and wife and so we would rarely talk about land ownership, only house.Pagey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 11:08 amNo because he is a foreigner and so will his family be, at least that was my presumption.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:43 amDon't you think he means his own family, as he's talking about maybe getting ripped off in future by the wife?
Re: Farang buying a house with a Thai lady
OK, makes more sense now. Still complications though, the family member would need to write a will gifting the house back to him or another family member in case of death, divorce etc....... Nothing is straightforward where Thai land and property is concerned!

If you're not yet married and don't have kids together, buy a condo in your name (you can own this 100%) so this is sin suan tua (personal property before marriage).
Or, go get a wooden house that you can sell on and can move. (My wife's mum's place was like that).
Condos are also easier to sell on..
Also saw some videos on YouTube of the derelicts who camp on Pattaya beach because they lost the house to their local wives and either can't or won't go back.

If you are buying the house BEFORE getting married it is not a joint asset and remains yours after divorce so there is no need whatsoever to register it in someone else's name.

Why not have your lawyer draw up a 30 year + lease agreement then have it certified and stamped at the Land Department.

Many land offices will not issue or authorise leases between husband and wife.

Ok, maybe not have land in wife's name. Close family member of the wife?
The stamped lease agreement would be the way to go if I was married etc..it's a powerful document.
