I'm fairly sure that if she is coming to Thailand, her expired Thai passport will be accepted.

How long are you staying Dai? If it's less than 60 days, she should be fine with her English passport (with a visit to Immigration to extend once). Stay any longer, and she needs to avoid using her British passport without first obtaining a visa. Otherwise, she will have an entry, with no exit stamp, and will technically overstay.

I had a similar problem with my son when we moved here. To get around the problem, he travelled without a passport. We obtained a certificate of identity, which worked very well, although he had to hold his nerve when taken for interrogation on arrival in Bangkok.

Thais arriving in Thailand on non-Thai passports will get a visa stamp and be subject to the same rules as foreigners (pretty much what BB said above).

Just enter on the expired Thai passport. Do not tempt fate by showing the UK passport to the immigration officer. Then go get a new Thai passport, which is quick and easy. This assumes the Thai passport has a Thai departure stamp and arrival card.

daio, your wife can travel on expired Thai passport and renew it in Thailand.
My wife and a friend have both done it, no problems. 🤗
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

That's 3 of us who have said she can travel on her expired passport to Thailand. If you still have doubts, a quick e-mail to the airline should confirm it.

I'll make it four. My daughter, years ago entered without a passport at all and a friend's wife entered with an expired passport which she renewed before going back to the UK.

To avoid delays you may want to show the UK passport to the airline and the expired Thai passport to immigration. Airline staff can be daft.

good point. The airlines insist that not only is the PP still valid but that you have 6 months left before it expires. One time I was in Cambodia and no one would sell me a ticket to BKK, as my pp had only 4 months to go. I had to come by bus. I was ready to offer baht at the border but got thru with no problem.

^^ I wonder if that would be a good idea. It could end up in the APIS (or whatever Thailand uses) causing questions on arrival. The check-in agent can check requirements for Thais entering Thailand on the check-in terminal.

If you were trying to return to your own country, you shouldn't have had a problem. I mentioned my son came here without a passport and HHTel has confirmed his daughter did the same.

An e-mail to your carrier will put your mind at ease.

Returning to Thailand on an expired Thai passport is valid. My other half did the same when she returned to live here, travelling from LHR with Jet.
