Thai Drivers License Pranburi
Re: Drivers License Dec. 7 2016
Some time ago, they wouldn't renew your licence until it had expired. I tried to renew my first licence a week before it expired and was sent away. That was some 15 years ago so things will have changed. As has been said before, if you wait till one day after your birthday then the renewal is 5 years from your next birthday.

Re: Drivers License Dec. 7 2016
I’ve just renewed my 5 year car and m/cycle licenses this morning at the Cha Am office - first thing was that they do not accept the yellow book on its own, I had to go to one of the municipality offices nearby to get a letter confirming the yellow book was current/valid - at a cost of 10 baht!!
Back to the license office, they didn’t want copies of the old driving licenses just the originals, with copies of passport/visa page. Color blind test, reaction test and then told to go upstairs and watch a one hour video. One of the office people came in and started talking to everybody in Thai - I assumed this was a 5-10 minute pep talk, but it went on and on for more than an hour and 15 minutes - I was becoming totally p*******d off by this time, assuming I had still to watch the 1 hour video when finally he said “ok finished” and no video. Other than a complete waste of an hour and 15 minutes for me and the other 2 westerners (assuming they were not fluent in Thai), I sensed that the man was really giving the Thai people a hard going over about the need to obey the traffic laws - hopefully some of what he was saying would have rubbed off on them!!

Did you require a medical note for the renewal

I recently renewed a 5 year license and only need a copy of my passport and a copy of the yellow address book (immigration letter does the same thing).
A first five year maybe different though and requirements are likely to be different in Hua Hin/Pranburi - easiest option is to call them and ask before you go.

You need the letter from immigration and doctors note plus copies of passport.
I listened to someone who lived here many years and said as I resided here I didn't need the letter from immigration, WRONG I did.
So after diving all the way back to immigration from Pranburi and getting back to the licence center it then took all of 10 minutes to get my 5 year one.

Re: Drivers License Dec. 7 2016
well,I didn't need it,but as allways in thailand ,one day you need this or that, and the next day you don't,or if you stand in another line it's different,so I allways take copies of everything ,and then they can give me back what they don't want.London Boy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:46 am You need the letter from immigration and doctors note plus copies of passport.

I only have the blue book
Re: Drivers License Dec. 7 2016
Several threads on this subject, but seems this one is mostly about Pran Buri. I would like to know just which bod needs a Christmas donation to get through that place in just a half an hour!
I arrived there at 8-15 am and the place was packed. Managed to get my paper work processed by the obliging young fellow behind the desk. Although given a number card it was a complete scrum to get into the reaction and colour test, PLUS the stupid "depth of field" gizmo. At least that is a bit more sensible than the two bits of string encountered previously once I figured out what I was supposed to do.
Was then sent into the video room to wait for the 9-00 am start. There were at least 20 people in there and the room quickly became stifling without air con. Thanks very much to the tall Farang that took matters into his own hands and found the remote for the air con. By the time the video started the room had 30 plus people in it and had cooled down.
A 1 hour video including the horror scenes at the beginning. English sub-titles but only viewable by the front row of seats as the bottom of the screen is very low. Probably a few good points in the video, but some of it debatable.
A further 30 minute wait before being called to pay the fee, followed by more waiting for the photo booth, followed again by more waiting for the card to be printed. Finally finished at 11-00 am.
Friendly enough staff, especially considering the big crowd in there. And no dragon wanting to ban my walking stick as happened in Cha-am last time! I will now probably expire before the licence does as it is good until November 2025!

Re: Thai Drivers License Pranburi
I found this a bit misleading and it had me bushed. Do a U turn at the Tesco traffic lights, keep to the left lane and turn to the left down the first road about 50 metres back towards Hua Hin from the police "box". The main police station is also down this road but I think the front entrance is via the road at the traffic lights. If you are looking for the transportation office heading from Hua Hin you have the light with Tesco Pran Buri on the left and a police box on the right hand side. Turn Right at this light and JUST past the police box there is a road and you turn left on this road and go down to the Transportation office and go up to the second floor.
The DLT is on the left about 0.5 Kms down the Soi.
