Grab Coming to Hua Hin
Grab Coming to Hua Hin
The company aims to reach 20 provinces by this year, with the service in Hua Hin (Prachuap Khiri Khan) to be launched on May 17.
This should be a megga kick in the teeth to the local taxi mafias.

Should eliminate the need for anybody to worry about drink driving, or getting parked ever again.

From news reports there have been many problems in Pattaya with local taxi mafia, so it will probably be the same in Hua Hin.This should be a megga kick in the teeth to the local taxi mafias.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Grab Coming to Hua Hin
If they are as efficient as Uber in Chiang Mai, the taxi mafia will be devastated. However, we used them extensively in Chiang Mai, and local taxis were just taking it on the chin, with no resistance. In fact at the airport, they suggested we use Uber as it would be cheaper. We had to be somewhere quick, so used a regular cab anyway.

Uber no longer in Thailand. If Grab rates in HH, will be like Krung Thep, then you won't notice much difference. May even start to appreciate what you have already.

Sounds like a good thing to me... I'd quite happily pay a few extra baht to avoid the atrocious Bangkok taxis....
In H.H. late at night you are limited to tuk-tuk drivers or a reliable taxi number you may have....
Missus GN is reluctant to use a tt driver if she's out partying with her friends at night as she just doesn't feel safe.. understandably.

Hmm. Wonder if there'll be Grab Tuk Tuk.
Re: Grab Coming to Hua Hin
Grab is changing the rates very drastically dependant on the demand and the time of the day
Re: Grab Coming to Hua Hin
Well, I'll certainly watch this with interest. Used Grab a few times in Bkk and no complaints from me, especially to get to those places where the regular cabs like to say, 'nein', or want to agree a fee.
I hate the fact when I call a cab here I never know whether I will get a car or songtaew type device, or that the price charged is in the lap of the Gods, all of it extortionate compared to the fees charged in Bkk.

Checked today, sunday 1:30 pm Market Village to Cha-Am. 410 Baht, reported by the App.
I took a ride on the bus.

Yep that's the business model in all countries they operate in, Uber the same.
In UAE if it's early evening or Friday brunch time, you can expect up to maybe 1.5 - 2 x normal fare with Uber or Careem (the UAE version of Grab).

Re: Grab Coming to Hua Hin
Agreed, a normal taxi would be 500 Baht, so the price is reasonable comparing with normal taxi prices - obviously a bus will be far cheaper!!404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 3:54 pmI'm sure a little old lady taxi would not be cheaper than 400 either for Cha-Am proper. Not an outrageous price.
Re: Grab Coming to Hua Hin
I just expected a comparable price as a meter taxi in Bangkok.

I too find that price to Cha Am very encouraging. I had to do my version of hard bargaing to get 480baht last year at this time. And I hate the back & forth with getting a price down.
