The Number Of Global Earthquakes Over The Last 30 Days Is More Than 50% Above Normal
Why is the number of earthquakes happening around the world increasing so dramatically? In recent days, we have seen very large earthquakes in Venezuela, Fiji, Italy and elsewhere. Here in North America, significant quakes have rattled Oregon, Alaska and the west coast of Mexico. As I reported on all of these important seismic events, it sure seemed like the number of earthquakes was rising, but I wanted to be sure. I once worked as an attorney, and I was trained to only come to conclusions that were warranted by the facts. So I decided to pull up the numbers, and what I discovered was extremely alarming. I turns out that the number of earthquakes that we have witnessed over the last 30 days is more than 50 percent above normal. Of course the Earth is constantly being pummeled by quakes, but this is a huge deviation from the norm. Could it be possible that we have entered a time when major Earth changes are going to start happening on a regular basis? If so, what does that mean for the future of our society?

If you go to Earthquake Track, you will find the latest data on all earthquakes that have happened all over the planet.

According to their numbers, there have been 82,845 earthquakes of magnitude 1.5 or greater over the last 365 days. That is an enormous number of earthquakes, but most of them are so small that they can’t really be felt.

I know very little about earthquakes but from a statistical point of view, I would suggest that 30 days is far too short a period to use for predicting a significant trend for the future - now if it continues at this rate over a much longer period, then that becomes more concerning.

This prediction from last year has one theory:

Scientists Predict 2018 Will Be a Bad Year for Earthquakes. Here's Why
http://time.com/5031607/earthquake-predictions-2018/

" They seem to follow periodic slowdowns in speed of the Earth’s rotation. Our solid planet is a lot less solid than it seems, and that’s true not just of its oceans and air, but of its outer core, which is about 1,200 mi. (2,200 km) thick and is composed mostly of liquid iron and nickel. That molten ooze tends to slosh about, following a pattern that oscillates more or less predictably over time, much the way — on a vastly smaller and more fleeting scale — water sloshing in a bucket will move back and forth in a repeating cycle.

Such motion deep inside the Earth slightly changes the planet’s rate of spin, adding to or subtracting from the 24-hour day by about a millisecond — a change that is regularly recorded by atomic clocks. When a slowdown occurs, the molten core continues to strain outward, obeying Newton’s fundamental law that objects in motion will try as hard as they can to remain in motion.

That outward pressure slowly propagates through the rocks and plates and faults that lie above it. Bilham and Bendick calculate that it takes five to six years for the energy sent out by the core to radiate to the upper layers of the planet where quakes occur, meaning that after the atomic clock notices a slowdown you’ve got five to six years before you’d better buckle up."

Whilst I must admit to feeling there have (seemingly) been a higher concentration of earthquakes recently, I have to agree with DB's comments. You must look at a far longer period and also both where the quakes are concentrated and at what magnitude.[EDIT] In comparison to recent years.

Most Californians have a ho-hum attitude. I lived there, on and off, for 15 years. I'd say we would average 3 quakes a year that we could feel.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Just came back from a week in Bali and had two earthquakes, one clocking in at 5.3! For my family it was a first and you can imagine the excitement of the kids. For me it was a stroll down memory lane having grown up in California....

Cheers,
B.
