The dark secret of Thailands child brides.

Post by caller »

Interesting article from this morning's Guardian.

It seems Thailand turns a blind eye to this issue, probably to avoid so-called Muslim sensitivities. So, whether it be Islam or prostitution, some men like to seek out young girls - and Thailand facilitates that.

Worth a read.

Underage marriage is probably better than a raped child that leads to a pregnancy. I realize that it's still rape but without the stigma of being an unwed mother. Ah, the religion of peace strikes again.

Arkansas, California to name two.
Well, it's about Thailand really and men crossing the border into Thailand, to do what is more difficult for them to do in Malaysia.

The title of this subject is wrong. It should be The Dark Secret of Thailand's Muslim Child Brides.

Buddhists do not practice this despicable thing.

It's an article from the UK Guardian newspaper, very left leaning. In the UK, the media dicate you do not in anyway emphasise someone's religion.

You could always start another thread about abuse of Thai children by other Thai family members, which is known to be an issue.

RCer is actually correct. Thai buddhists don't attempt to put any pretence of legality on paedofilia. Just watch the Thai language news or read the papers. Every day there are reports of step fathers, grandfathers, other relatives let alone the entertainment establishments selling young girls and boys. One of the attractions of Thailand is the flexibility of the system and that pretty much anything has a price, corruption available to all rather than the western version of it only being available to the priveledged with connections. Unfortunately all things have a dark side and the sexual abuse of children here clearly illustrates this.
