Aside from the slang terms, what are "faggots?"

they're a kind of meatball. My granny used to call them "Thursday meat balls" (Thursday being the day before payday when the purse, fridge and cupboards were empty). I think traditionally they were made from mincing the cheaper cuts of meats that usually wouldn't be eaten. Nowadays they're made more from minced liver and more "normal" things.

Called in Nanny's and sure enough they had 'faggots'. Not 'Brains Faggots' and these are homemade. I assume they're already pre-cooked. I'm sure Harry will confirm this. I was told that Harry must be my friend as he's the only other one to buy faggots!!

This from the net:
Faggot (food) Faggots – meatballs made from minced off-cuts and offal, especially pork (traditionally pig's heart, liver, and fatty belly meat or bacon) together with herbs for flavouring and sometimes added bread crumbs

“Faggots and peas” were a childhood treat in Newport Market (South Wales) about 60 years ago.
I remember that they were kind of ‘square shaped balls’ made from minced meat (you were served just two), and had a strong herbal taste. I think they were served without potatoes or chips, just faggots and peas.
The permanent market is still there. About 10 years ago, I went in there looking for the shop selling faggots and peas, but long gone.

They are pre-cooked. You can fry them or just warm them in the microwave. I served them with home-made rosti (which is more Swiss than English).

For those interested the European Food shop on Canal Road sells tins of Haggis. Faggots are sort of the English version of Haggis.

Early bird catches the worm. We bought the last pack this morning. The lady said they sell very well, and hope to get more.

Mrs BB is currently preparing the faggots we purchased yesterday. She is quite an experienced cook. She assures me the faggots are definitely not pre-cooked.
