Bubba, yes, you've got me I'm only a poor British pensioner. However, I accept that some people have a lot more money than me. So long as they gained that money legally, I am always pleased to hear that some people have done well in life and have accumulated wealth, so well done. However, I don't understand why that should make me British.
Now, this isn't meant as offensive, but there is the saying, 'A fool and his money..........................'
HHTel has hinted at horror stories about misdiagnosis. The fact is that some hospitals will not admit they don't have the correct skill set, and rather than admit their shortcomings, they will attempt to treat a condition beyond their ability. My wife's life was also put at risk. She has a condition that requires specialised medication. In this instance, they put her on a medication that made her seriously ill. I rushed her to Petcharat Hospital for a second opinion. They admitted that they weren't qualified to treat the condition, but we were lucky because the only person South of Bangkok who was, had a clinic in Petchaburi. They arranged a motorbike taxi for me to follow, and we went straight to the clinic. He told us that if we had continued with the treatment, my wife would only have got worse. He stopped that medication immediately, and put her on the correct medication. He confirmed that he was, at that time, the only person South of Bangkok who could prescribe the correct medication (from his clinic, which was the grubbiest clinic I've ever been to). After a couple of years with the Petchaburi clinic, Hua Hin Hospital are now able to care for my wife's condition.
However, I'm off topic again
we are talking about minor procedures that can be undertaken by all 'classes' of medical institute. An example of inefficiency, even with minor procedures. I had a leg wound, which when treated, the doctor applied antibiotic cream. My treatment was to continue at home with my wife applying the cream. I always check any medication given to me before self-use. The doctor had given me vaginal cream. I went straight back to see the doctor to query his prescription, and there on his desk was my prescription. He'd given me the wrong cream i.e. 2 similar looking containers on his desk.
Now I could write a book on mistakes made in my first 2 years here by the better private hospitals, which if I hadn't had a relative working at the hospital overseeing what they were doing to me, I would have had a limb amputated, and would have spent a week in a Bangkok decompression chamber. None of which was necessary.
If you want to throw your money at the more expensive medical facilities for minor treatments, that is obviously your choice. For anything more serious, I urge you to get a second opinion before moving forward with their treatment.
Yes, I'm a poor Brit, surviving on a pension, but I did put my health first. I had been brainwashed (by this forum) and always went to the best (yes, I had a relative working there, and received preferential pricing), but in 2 years, they made so many bad calls I am now with a government facility, and actually very impressed (if I want a coffee on a soft seat, I can walk to the coffee shop and, invest an extra 40 Baht, and that gives me real coffee instead of instant).
The fact is, ear wax removal costs 500 Baht - probably a lot less away from Hua Hin's inflated prices. Some places may charge a little extra, but a 350% mark up should not be encouraged.
