Well rain was forecast here in the middle of the night followed by showers today. Having been working in the garden for a while, I made the effort to move everything under cover. However, as yet, no rain at all.

Maybe we'll suffer tomorrow.

Getting on for midnight now and still nothing. Read a post from someone in Samui and they sounded almost disappointed but at least they got something but nothing to talk about!

I read on social media that parts of Khao Takiab was flooded to high tide storm surge. Can't substantiate it though. Has anybody seen it with their own eyes?

I really have to wonder what would happen to some of these places if there was a "proper" cyclone / typhoon. The windspeeds with this one still did not reach cyclone strength, and there is all sorts of damage apart from the rain.

Their fuel reserves for power generation, if reported correctly, are very basic to say the least. In the lower South structures on or close to the beach are vulnerable to "normal" tropical weather, never mind anything a bit bigger.

Downgraded Pabuk moves to Andaman

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... to-Andaman

Pabuk has lost speed and moved across land to the Andaman Sea, leaving behind a trail of homes damaged by fallen trees or blown-off roofs and disrupted power networks.

The first tropical storm to hit Thailand in 30 years turned into a depression at 7am on Saturday, with the centre in Thap Put, Phangnga province, the Meteorological Department said in its No.22 announcement issued at 9am on Saturday.
It moved westward at 10km per hour and entered the Andaman Sea at 9am.

Heavy to torrential rain has continued in several areas, with gusty winds in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket and Krabi.

The weather pattern will continue for another day and people in the areas have been warned of flash floods and runoff.

Waves in The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will continue to be strong, at 3-5m high. People on the eastern coast have been cautioned about dangers caused by strong winds and waves ashore. Fishermen are advised to stay ashore for another day, the announcement said.

Flights resumed on Saturday to the southern provinces, after closures of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani airports.
Bangkok Airways, which has a monopoly at Koh Samui airport, resumed normal operations early on Saturday and added extra flights to assist stranded passengers.

The airports at Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani also resumed operations at noon.

Most ferry services to Thailand's southern holiday islands have resumed following a suspension for the storm.
Over the past few days, more than 28,000 people have been evacuated into shelters across seven provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said in a daily tally on Saturday.

Authorities have recorded just one death, after a fishing boat capsized in strong winds near the coast of Pattani province, leaving another of the crew missing, though four more were safe.

PTT Exploration and Production Plc, a unit of state-owned PTT Plc, said it expected to resume operations of oil rigs at Bongkot and Erawan, two of the country’s biggest gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand, on Sunday.
It had suspended operations there since Monday and brought staff inland.

Anybody know where that ship loader is? I seem to recall one around Krabi, but do not know what they load out of there.

Pabuk claims 3 lives, forces thousands from homes

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

Tropical storm Pabuk, which weakened after lashing eight southern provinces, has claimed three lives and forced thousands of people out of their homes.

Pabuk caused heavy downpours, high waves and gusty winds in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pattani, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Chumphon, Yala, Phatthalung and Narathiwat provinces on Friday, Chaiyapol Titisak director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said on Saturday.

In Nakhon Si Thammarat, strong winds battered six districts — Pak Phanang, Muang, Hua Sai, Khanom, Sichon and Tha Sala. The storm also brought water runoff in Chawang, Phibun and Ron Phibun districts.

A total of 34,089 people from 240 affected areas in Nakhon Si Thammarat had been evacuated, said Mr Chaiyapol.

The storm claimed two lives in Pak Phanang and Chalerm Prakiat districts and uprooted 32 power poles, he said. It was still raining in the southern province on Saturday.

In Pattani, the storm pounded two tambons in Yaring district, damaging 25 houses. A man died after a fishing boat capsized in strong winds. One crew member was still missing.

Authorities ordered the evacuation of 1,906 people in Yaring, Nong Chik and Muang districts of Pattani.
In Surat Thani, flooding hit Kanchanadit and Don Sak districts. A total of 1,661 people from seven districts were evacuated. There were no reports of deaths and injuries, said the DDMP chief.

In Songkhla, gusty winds brought down 17 power poles and damaged 475 houses and a broadcasting tower in Muang, Khuan Niang and Ratthaphum districts.

A total of 5,622 people in six districts of Songkhla were evacuated. There were no deaths and injuries. As of Saturday, there was no rain, said Mr Chaiyapol.

In Chumphon, authorities evacuated 2,121 people in six districts: Lamae, Lang Suan, Sawi, Thung Tako, Muang and Pathiu. It rained slightly in the province on Saturday.

In Yala, 11 people in Muang district were evacuated. In Phatthalung, authorities evacuated 50 people in Khuan Khanun district.

In Narathiwat, a total of 1,422 houses were damaged by the storm, he said.

Mr Chaiyapol urged people living in at-risk areas to closely monitor the weather forecasts and strictly abide by authorities’ advice.

In Prachuap Khiri Khan, the storm caused flash floods triggered by high seas in Bang Saphan district, affecting many houses.

Lertyot Yaemprai, chief of Bang Saphan district, said Ban Pak Khong village, a fishing community in tambon Mae Ramphueng, was hard hit. At least 20 houses were damaged by water almost reaching their roofs.

High tides also damaged another 20 houses in a nearby community. Officials would be sent to pump out water from the affected houses.

Despite spraying water in the air and taking two buses off the road as reported in another thread, this morning in Bangkok there is a good wind from the North East, which is what is needed to shift the pollution.

There has been very little NE wind this "cool season", and very few "cold" days because of it. The synoptic charts posted(as usual about 24 hours old), show a good high pressure system in the South China Sea. The Intertropical Convergence Zone(a big low pressure area), is also influencing the NE airflow.
