2,917 Day Overstay for Hua Hin Bar Owner
Re: 2,917 Day Overstay for Hua Hin Bar Owner
Yes, of course, but nobody should be under the illusion of not being a taxpayer. How many times have you heard statements about the price of fuel or a packet of cigarettes a few years ago?

I consider a taxpayer is somebody who fill a document for paying income tax. He is an official taxpayer.
All other taxes are indirect taxes. If you go for holidays to Cambodia or VN, you will pay same taxes.

Check again my friend! The building - no. The business - yes.europtimiste wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 3:01 pmYou say he paid taxes here. From what ? as bar owner ? To my knowledge he cannot own a bar.Lost wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 11:40 pmIf it is Geronimo at least I know his real name now. Always knew him as 'horizontal' as he spent more time lying down than standing up. Whoever it is, I hope the transition back to the UK goes as smoothly as possible. Time in IDC will be absolutely no fun at all. Magnified if suffering from mental issues.
With his work history, monies in and taxes paid - if he were an immigrant in the UK, he would have been handed a British passport long before he went into overstay. Unfortunately, Thailand cares not if you've been a tax payer for 1 year nor 20 years...
... you are still just a foreigner.
Poor fella. Probably got nothing to go back to. Job opportunities will be scarce. He is about to embark on an incredibly tough journey.

Somebody on holiday in Thailand can re-claim their VAT when they leave I believe.europtimiste wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 4:54 pm All other taxes are indirect taxes. If you go for holidays to Cambodia or VN, you will pay same taxes.

Not all countries have a VAT or extra taxes on alcoholic drinks. Most, if not all, have a sales tax on goods purchased.europtimiste wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 3:47 pmIt's funny, but I considered tax, income tax. In every country you pay VAT, fuel, smoking and alcoholic drink taxes.
So you must admit that you are robbed legally worldwide.

This thread is not discussing taxes. This is a sad story about a fellow Expat who has been caught (or is is rescued) by the authorities after a huge overstay.

To be fair, Eurothingy picked up the mention of tax. If he hadn't then it wouldn't have been noticed.
We should be forgiven for reacting. He's difficult to ignore!!

I suggest you read again. I was being polite and responding, whilst trying to bring it back on subject.
The message to you is also to read the T&C that you have agreed to. There are ways of responding to Mod actions, and yours is not one of them.
