I watched this by default really (I had it on while working), otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. It turned out to be one of the best games I've seen so far! Although Fiji were a tad lethargic, Uruguay really stepped up and played some good running rugby.

Is it just me or does Michael Hooper look like the product of inbreeding?
I don't trust children. They're here to replace us.

He's had a few "knocks".......... and rather you tell him than me!!

Anywho, I'm three for three today and not yet hit lunch!! :thumb: A day off work, semi-decent Internet connection/"TVMucho"........ and last but not least THAT victory over the Green & Golds!!!
:sun:      :sun:

A big win for Wales putting us on a likely course to meet Les Bleus in the Quarter Finals........

Now just need to hit the Beta Blockers and calm down a little before digesting the hilights!!

I really am trying not to be biased!!

IMHO, it's an answer with a couple of "Buts".....

Rhys Patchell's tackle technique was dreadful, BUT there was nothing illegal in it......
The penalty was harsh on Kerevi and Australia BUT in the strictest sense of the current laws, it was a penalty....

Personally I think Hooper's tackle on Biggar earlier in the match may have warranted closer attention.....

You never know, Wales and Australia could well end up meeting again in the Semi's........?

This will be a silly question for many, but if you don't know the answer, IMHO all quests for knowledge are viable.

Back in the day, when I played rugby, the formation of the scrum was 3-2-3. A couple of days ago, I was watching the rugby on TV, and I noticed the formation was 3-4-1. I've noticed it in every game since. My son says he's never known it any different to 3-4-1, and he used to play at a fairly high standard. I watched my son play loads of times, but just never noticed it had changed.

I can certainly see the advantages, but when did it change?

I've never known the actual formation to be 3-2-3 in a Rugby Union scrum. it's been 3-4-1 since I first played, with the Front Row consisting of the Tight Head Prop, Hooker and the Loose Head Prop, the (2) Second Rows and the Blind Side and Open Side Flankers forming the "Row of 4" and then the Number 8.

Terminology may play a part in the confusion however: -

Front Row (3) : Tight Head Prop, Hooker, Loose Head Prop
Second Row (2) : Two "Second Row Players"
Back Row (3) : Blind Side Flanker, Number 8, Open Side Flanker

And now onto the Lillywhites vs Corned Beef Hash.........

It was probably 1970 that I played last. At that time the 2 flankers bound with No.8. Maybe Plymouth rules.

Certainly in the late '70's I was taught 3-4-1, with the Flankers binding with both the Second and Front rows - the aim being to "assist" the Props bind & forward drive - with the "dark arts" of the Front Row, I don't think this was or is much of a consideration   :D

With the speed of the game these days, are standing or peeling away very quickly - the "full bind" does certainly not last long!
