Refrigeration Repair Man
Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
Seems Big Boy has his problem solved so just thought I would add my 2 pennies worth.
All have magnetic door strips, the idea of a vacuum is not unreal, my Whirlpool fridge expels all the warm air which enters when it is open and when the door first shuts. Thus creating a vacuum making it nigh on impossible to open the door for a while.
My first fridge 1973 (second hand) had no motor to run a compressor just a electrical element to heat the refrigerant, had to rest when moving it to let all the liquid drain to reservoir before plugging in, therefore, it worked well but not as efficient as modern fridges. However it didn't suck in dust and dirt.
Built a bar down the Falklands and needed a mass beer cooler. NAAFI had a ''broken'' one and after a quick once over 5 pounds changed hands. Back to work cleaned the grills at the compressor intake which were filthy and clogged. worked like magic, bar now proud owner of a 10 foot chest cooler.
Moral of this story is that most of the workings are hidden at the rear so it is worth dragging out and cleaning once in a while.

Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
Just out of interest what were the problems? I had a freezer in Saudi that dumped, I diagnosed faulty thermostat easily found and replaced.
As a point of interest did you know that if you use a domestic fridge in a garage in a UK winter it will control at around 3 to 5 degrees C when temperatures are below zero thus heating your food. Special fridges are used in pub cellars.

Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
The problems were extensive i.e.:
- New Compressor
- New Seal
- New Control Unit
- New Assy Pipe Cond Spiral
- New Dryer
- 3 other items, written in Thai

Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
Sounds like a new fridge may have been cheaper.
Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
Thanks for the reply.
Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
You in effect have a brand new fridge, What is the warranty?
Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
It was an expensive fridge, and yes, it's like a new fridge now. Warranty was well expired. However, there were a few anomalies with the initial repair, and the eventual repair was done without further cost, so the repair cost 7,000฿, which I was very happy with.

Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
Just to update my situ also - nothing to do with seals, it was a fried circuit board as expected. Replacement under 2k.

Oh well, I guess the PEA will pay for that?

Re: Refrigeration Repair Man
My turn to ask now. Does anyone know of a repairman to fix a Samsung fridge/freezer?
Water is dripping from and presumably through the light in the top of the fridge. No idea where it is coming from. The other problem is that the freezer that sits above the fridge has doors that can only be opened after a considerable wait since last opening, about 15 minutes or so.
Apart from that, it's working fine!
Thanks

Samsung are still there. They came good, eventually. It is still going strong.
