A masterpiece. Watch it. Feel it. Let it take you on a trip.

Is it this one?

That's the one. I didn't know anything about the movie b4 I watched it, which made it better. Will not be everyone's cup of tea - that's for sure. I was completely taken by it. Mesmerised, really. After the 2+ hours of this piece of art, I kinda just sat there in silence for a minute or two. Like...

One of my faves of all time this one.

Well done - you have sweet revenge for my Harry Kane abuse :lach:

After such a rave review, this moved to the top of our viewing priorities, I was looking forward to it, and we watched it last night.

We were an hour into this 2:27 movie, and nothing had happened, I was out of it. I guess it was like watching Harry on a football pitch - nothing happens, so maybe you're tuned in to this type of thing. Then the 'sort of' story happened, but even then, nothing really happened. An old couple throwing themselves off a cliff, and watching their bits explode doesn't do much for me.

One of the worst films I've ever suffered.

Having said that, it might be a generations thing. I hated it, but my son, who rarely manages a movie from end to end without sending up the zzzzzz's was firmly gripped to screen for the entire 2:27.

I did say that it wouldn't be for everyone. Will be a marmite one. Love/hate. Glad your son enjoyed it though. With an excellent 83% rating from Rotten Tomatoes but a dismal 66% from 'google users' (still not too bad - horrors usually get in the 40s) it certainly divided veiwers.

I thought it was brilliant. Thought the girl in the lead role was outstanding. During the particular moments in the movie, I thought they captured having a bad trip perfectly. The isolation. The confusion... (helps if you've experienced one).

I thought the movie's score complimented the scenes brilliantly and gave a nice texture to all the bizarreness that was going on.

Just loved it. Watched it again the nxt afternoon (definitely a watch in the dark with headphones on, this movie though). The last time I sat and watched a movie twice in a day was Toy Story 20 odd years ago.

The most recent issue of the Directors Guild of America's quarterly magazine has a long interview with Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarentino, with most of the talking happening between those 2. Why them? Partly because of the buzz preceding their 2 fall releases (The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). Partly because they share deep roots. From the introduction of the article:

Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino are born storytellers, not just in their movies—which bear each director's unmistakable stamp—but in their deep-seated appreciation for the medium. While they hail from different generations—Scorsese was among the first wave of film school grads in the mid '60s, and Tarantino's rise coincided with the indie film revolution of the early '90s—their passion and knowledge of cinema place them on equal footing. No genre escapes their grasp, whether it's prestige studio releases or B-movie potboilers, splashy musicals or noirish thrillers, art-house fare or spaghetti Westerns. They've been dining on this grand buffet all their lives, and it shows in their own work, in the characters they've created, and the lens through which they view the world.

Only The Brave, 2017

Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots, a group of firefighters that battle wildfires in the US.  It ends with the Yarnell Hill fire.

Excellent

On Netflix and, I'm sure, download sites

Agreed. Based on a true story. Kevin Bacon (the accompanying officer) was able to take full advantage of his character's emotional arc.

A heads up that 'Joker' is out and about for HD downloads and he is deliciously twisted.

I was really underwhelmed by The Irishman and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. On the bright side Joker is a real cinematic masterpiece and Joaquin Phoenix really gives an Oscar worthy performance rivaling Heath Ledgers.

I've not seen The Irishman but I thought Once upon a Time was proper shit. I just sat waiting for something interesting. Some interesting dialogue. Some interesting plot lines. Some interesting cinematography.

Just. Something. Interesting.

It wasn't even trying to be clever and making the 'interesting' more thought provoking rather than simple visual or script related goodies.

Garbage. Turned it off b4 it finished. Worst movie I've watched in a good while.

Joker is excellent. Didn't need big bang bangs or pow pows. Indeed an Oscar worthy performance from Joaquin.

'Uncut gems' (recently about in HD) is worth a watch. Adam Sandler plays a busy, bothered jeweler trying to find his next big score. Not 'great' as most the reviews scored it but definitely good.

The Irishman is deffo worth a watch but I couldn't help but compare it to Goodfellas and Casino. Even with the magical de ageing SFX Pacino and De Niro(much better in Joker BTW) didn't work for me. As for OUTIH I really hope that Quentin comes up with the goods in his 10th and final feature.
