Flights Thai vs Emirates

Post by maccastime »

Just had a month in Hua Hin during September, have for years users Thai Air as they have been the best priced flight from Sydney, but!! Looking elsewhere for next year, on take off plane shook like crazy many worried faces on board. Staff no more happy smiling good sorts replaced by grumpy elderly staff. Service crap drink trolley appears after wheels up then vanishes? Food.... absolute gutter grub meal at night rubbish breakfast on way home yuck, I read while in Thailand that the airline was in trouble I can surely see that.Emirates want $1,200 compared to Thai $740. So can any kind member advise what Emirates staff food etc is like. Thanks

Emirates is superb in terms of service and food. If you're on the A380 there is plenty of room too. The only annoyance is they've cut the baggage allowance to 25kgs and you cant select a seat until 48 hours before the flight (unless you pay extra).

I've always found their prices to be a lot less than Thai - but I'm flying the other way! Can get from BKK to London return for about 23,000 THB - Thai is always over 35k for the same flight.

Emirates are very good and I use them whenever I fly if possible, only thing is the ryanair factor that pisses me off.
There are 4 fares for economy from special to flexi plus.
And of course you baggage allowance depends on which one you choose, but I believe special fare is only 15kilo.
They have now done the same with business and first class with different fare structures.
I tend to do business class simply because it gives me 40 kilo plus no waiting in long queues at passport control, also if you compare flex plus in economy there is not a great deal of difference.
What does grind my gears is the free limousine, I dont need it so why not cut the price?.
Emirates also have their own app that you can use to book or even change itinerary if you need to, worth joining the skywards frequent flyer scheme.

I need to fly Business Class to LHR next year with my wife and have just checked the cost on Thai and Emirates and the costs are respectively 279k and 240k. By comparison BA are “just“ 185k and whilst I don’t really like the BA service (their plane on the outward flight is a 20 year old Boeing 777, but a 787 on the return) the cost saving is significant. none of the other ME airlines are any cheaper than Emirates, so might have to chose BA.

At first I gulped at those prices but of course that's for 2pax, unusual for ba to be cheaper but maybe due to booking and flying from bkk first.
I pay around £1800 lhr-dxb-bkk on Emirates but also get the air miles, not extravagant but I gave up smoking 30 a day costing me over £100 per week in the uk.
So now treat myself with the savings.😁😁

Take a look at Oman Air flights, Their planes are very comfortable in business class and are now our preference. We always flew Emirates business in the past but in our opinion Oman came out tops both on comfort and price.

A long time since I flew with them on the LHR-Bkk direct route, but Eva were always a reasonable deal.

I’m certain that I had previously checked Eva prices and found them high, but have just checked again and they are the same as BA (just 1000 Baht more), the only downside is that the outbound flight doesn’t reach LHR until 19.25 which means a very late arrival at our onward destination. Decisions, decisions!!

My daughter has just been to visit. She swears by EVA having tried some of the other airlines. This time she came Business Class returning on Economy Premium. The cost of the full journey return was 1500 quid. (I guess it was a promotional price),

I've used Emirates many times from Europe to Bangkok but the last two times I've used BA via Heathrow due to price and flight times. Emirates have better aircraft, a much better entertainment system and are more punctual but you have to put up with a crowded transit in Dubai with long journeys between flights. BA have older aircraft, a very poor entertainment system but surprisingly good food and they're not stingy with alcohol and also at Heathrow you can get pub food and beer at very reasonable prices for an airport.

I have tried booking on Oman but repeatedly get told there are no seats available on the dates we are looking to fly. I will try again and see if I can get some prices even for dates a bit away from our target dates.
