Covid-19 News & Updates
Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
We are not being told the truth. What? Thailand has hovered at 35 cases for a month and only now admits to 3 more ...hmm. I think many people have already had it and only suffered a mild case. The people at risk are older folks and those with pre-existing conditions like heart disease/diabetes/cancer etc.
Most/Many will be infected and you'll either live or die ...rather like the normal flu that kills 100s of thousands every year in the world and I think the carrying on as normal for the authorities outweighs everything else and the powers that be think that those that will die, will die and that's that.
Unless of course they are hiding something from us and we don't know the full threat ...which is much more likely due to the fact we aren't told the truth on anything. Even TAT can't come up with honest visitor numbers.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
Continuing on this theme, I have been thinking about the costs a lot, and several questions are bothering me:
- What is the real cost of a Covid-19 test?
- If e.g. the real cost is 5K, why are some Public Hospitals hiking the price by adding 160%?
- If they are so serious about public safety, why is there a charge at all?
- The fees charged are all under Bt15,000, but can be higher depending on risk of infection, which pertains to age and overall medical health. Does this mean OAPs and diabetics need a different test?
- The article goes on to say, "Note that people confirmed as infected are transferred to specifically equipped facilities." Who pays for this? It could be just another disincentive to roll up to check whether or not you are infected.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
My daughter works for GSK (Pfizer being a part).
She told me today that they are almost ready to start trials on a vaccine. My daughter has put her name to the trials (What is she thinking??)
Of course this isn't public knowledge as far as I know. The info is just from my daughter.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
All this taking of temperatures is a VERY weak screening system. There is some doubt on how long the incubation period is but it is certainly can be over 7 days. During this time the pt is infected and spilling viruses but is NOT symptomatic and does NOT have a fever. It appeals to govts and other authorities as it looks as if you are "doing something".

Theme parks are closing here and abroad:

I'm sure there are many others outside of China that haven't made the News. All in China are closed. I would think water parks are next if not already, not only due to lack of customers but because of the risk involved with people clearing their noses, spitting water etc.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
One of the effects I've been trying to get my head around. How are these people supposed to live if it goes on for some time as is quite likely at the moment? The closure will leave 200 staff out of work. The management promised to hire them back in the same jobs and salaries when it eventually reopens.
I've been trying to get my head around it since the potential scrapping of the football league this season was announced yesterday. I very much doubt clubs will be able to employ their players until next year, if football is cancelled. OK, Thai players can maybe get a job in 7-11, but what about the foreigners, who are here on exorbitant (compared to Thai) wages? They most certainly won't be paid indefinitely. If they become unemployed, their work permits will no longer be valid and they will have to leave the country. It's a crazy situation, but this scenario could spread likewise across big business. A lot of important talent across all fields could be lost because these guys won't just sit at home twiddling thumbs until Thailand wants them again. Who is managing this?
People won't be dying of the corona virus, but starvation. How will it affect the food chain? I guess farming will become a lucrative business again.
OK, this may be an over-reaction today, but things are slowly escalating. Schools closing, ships turned away, citizens being evacuated, etc.; all while Thailand fiddles as Rome burns and invites every man and his dog to the Moto GP. If somebody feels ill, are they going to risk a week's wages to see if its THE VIRUS, or just sit at home to either die or get better? Total mis-management of the situation. Somebody needs to step up, and it shouldn't be that clown wearing a mask to protect his beard whilst berating Farangs for not accepting the gift of a free mask from a total stranger.

Some large Mall groups are instructing staff who have been abroad to stay away from work for 14 days (unpaid) upon their return. I guess a lot of foriegn trips are being cancelled. My other half has just cancelled a planned weekend trip abroad with friends as a consequence.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
I work for a large mining and engineering company with 13K+ staff worldwide. We're getting huge travel restrictions put on us which will have a massive effect on my section being "Service & Installation" - the job obviously involves a great deal of travel (worldwide) and as such there are obvious worries over cancelled jobs/visits as well as actual travel when able...... Where do you draw the line?caller wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 6:25 pm Some large Mall groups are instructing staff who have been abroad to stay away from work for 14 days (unpaid) upon their return.
