They are truly amazing. I have the greatest respect for them & what they do/have done :thumb:

Just got home from HH.

Had to drop a CD ROM into someone at a hotel in town.
Was in there 3-4 minutes and suddenly saw 2 police officers around my car, which was parked on a red line outside the entrance.

Went and spoke to them (in Thai) and explained the situation.

They then bo?&ocked the hotel staff for not telling them that I was inside and said that as they had already started writing the ticket they'd have to go through with it.
Normally the fine would be THB 400 but they wrote something on the ticket to reduce it to THB 200.

As they gave me the ticket they apologised and said that if I'd seen them a minute earlier or the hotel staff had said something they would have left it go.

Seems like pretty decent treatment to me - never met such courteous traffic cops in the West.

Steve
The emblem of the parachute regiment is actually a Pegasus which is a winged horse. What you are actually describing is the Parachute regiment cap badge and wings worn on the right shoulder of uniform and shirts. It is also worn on the epaulettes of No ! and No 2 dress.

I was in Tha- yang at the market and pulled in to a space on the other side of the road, when i got back the car had a ticket on the screen, this i took to the police station and asked why. The man said i was parked facing the wrong way should be with the flow of traffic. 200bht fine for me ,my wife said later her brother had to pay the same ,that's a days pay. Never had any other problems when stopped, always wha and say sawadi krap/ kha and be polite. I carry my passport always so i can be identified in an accident ,but it is the law anyway.

My wife's uncle a policeman sgt at cawluchang, is x,paru and when my brother was over from the u.k. took us all for a half day to watch the training. This was very exiting and a bit noisy on the firing range. He and the wife's brother in law used to be in the same unit together and go up on the Burma boarder . They would helicopter in on long line a75mill rope or parachute down ,i am tolled they are used similar to the u.k. s.a.s.

rich chinese guys,

Post by vincent chang »

Hi, I am a rich chinese guy who drives an old mercedes, and the police always wave me right on through, I have only got a parking ticket in bangkok in two years of pretty bad driving. I cant get used to driving on the wrong side of the road being born and raised in america. Incidentally, in america, the cops always stop me as a chinese guy in an old car and check my registration, insurance, seat belts, even the position of my liscence plate and headlamp covers. discriminatory enforcement is what we call it in the usa. so now Yall know how it feels to be the minority for a change.

You live in Georgia what do you expect? No one would give you a second look out here in California.

dont knock georgia.

Post by vincent chang »

everyone thinks georgia is a redneck state. I got pulled over once for making a wrong turn and the trooper , seeing that I was newly arrived from california, let me off with a warning and let me go without paying the fine. now in california where I am from, I used to get pulled over all the time in vallejo california simply because my car was an old 85 honda civic. if you were black or hispanic, it was far worse. california has a lot of asians , but they still get hassled. I lived in georgia for about 6 months, and people were very friendly. with no hassles against asians simply because there were so very few asians out there.

I think the whole ticket thing applys the same way in lots of countries with the same factors; your attitude, did you actually do something wrong minor or major, your appearance, the cop's bad day, end of the month etc....

I've never got a ticket in thailand and never did anything wrong either. guess I was lucky on every factors mentioned above.

Whilst car crime (vandalism) is very rare in Thailand, I have also had my car keyed in the car park of the Conrad Hotel in BKK.
