Outrage after squealing pig forced to bungee jump in theme park stunt

https://au.news.yahoo.com/theme-parks-s ... 37686.html

WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: A theme park has sparked international outrage after it forced a pig dressed in a cape to bungee jump from a 68-metre tower.

Footage of the disturbing stunt at the resort in Chongqing, China, was widely condemned across Chinese social media.

The clip shows the pig tied to a metal pole being carried by two men to the top of a tower before being pushed off.

The animal can be heard squealing as it bounced up and down several times before becoming still. Laughter and cheers could be heard from the crowd.

The widespread criticism on Chinese sites such as Weibo reflects the growing importance of animal rights among the country’s people.

The furore has since prompted the theme park to issue an apology.

"We sincerely accept netizens' criticism and advice and apologise to the public," it said.
"We will improve [our] marketing of the tourist site to provide tourists with better services."

The publicity event – which organisers called the golden pig bungee jump – was held to celebrate the opening of the theme park's bungee attraction.

The pig was very "calm" as it was pulled back up, a cameraman working for the theme park told state news website Global Times.

"A pig bungee jumping is odd and attracts tourists and local residents to our site," he said.

Incident a ‘wake-up call’ for China

Animal protection organisation Peta condemned the incident, branding it "animal cruelty at its worst".

"Pigs experience pain and fear in the same ways that we do, and this disgusting PR stunt should be illegal,” Jason Baker, Peta senior vice-president of international campaigns, told the BBC.
"The Chinese public's angry response should be a wake-up call to China's policy-makers to implement animal protection laws immediately."

According to local reports the animal, which weighed 75kg, was sent to a slaughterhouse afterwards.

It's not ok to have pig bungee jump but it's ok to send it to the slaughterhouse afterward.
The them park apologized to the public. Did it apologize to the pig?

Indonesian needlefish boy: 'A fish jumped out the water and stabbed my neck'

An Indonesian teenager has described - for the first time - his terrifying swim to safety after a fish leapt out of the sea and speared him through the neck.

Muhammad Idul revealed how the force of the needlefish impaling itself in his neck threw him from his boat and into the water, prompting a desperate swim to shore and a sprint to hospital some 90 minutes' drive away.

The fact the 16-year-old is still alive, smiling and able to tell his tale is thanks to his quick-thinking friend - and some very careful surgeons...... (Full story at link)

'Thank God for drones': Aussie couple's special delivery during coronavirus quarantine

https://au.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-d ... 55074.html

An Australian couple confined to their cruise ship cabin due to a coronavirus outbreak appear to be making the best out of their unfortunate predicament with the help of some wine.

With limited on-board supplies, Jan and Dave Binskin, from Palm Beach in Queensland, said they had two cases of vino delivered to their door after putting in a request with their wine club.

The company, named Naked Wine Club, surprisingly obliged and flew the valuable product to their Diamond Princess cruise using a drone, according to a post to Facebook on February 7.

“Naked Wine Club you’re incredible. Just got the first drop. Thank God for drones, the Japanese Coast Guard did not know what the f*** was going on,” the couple wrote on their joint account.

A photo update showed Mr Binskin, clad in a pulled-down face mask, appearing to enjoy a red for the couple’s very own “happy hour” while kicking back on the bed in their cabin.

The following day it seemed the couple had more positive news to report, saying they had disembarked from Yokohama, south of Tokyo, where the ship had remained quarantined in port for several days.

They left for a 12-hour trip and returned to port on Sunday morning (local time) for their fifth day of being confined to their quaint room.
“Good Morning Yokohama-Shi, back again after 12-hour cruise. Still holding it together, might get on deck today,” their latest post read.

An earlier post from the couple shared a more serious insight into what they were dealing with, detailing a lack of natural light and fresh air.

“This is inhumane and total incarceration. The government has to evacuate us to a suitable site. There are also medication, mental and lack of physical exercise issues. Help please,” they said.

The cruise ship and the roughly 3700 people aboard have been under two-week quarantine since arriving back at the port of Yokohama after a man who disembarked in Hong Kong was diagnosed with the virus.

RIP 'Mad" Mike Hughes who wanted to prove the Earth was flat. A candidate for the 2020 Darwin Award.

'Mad' Mike Hughes dies after crash-landing homemade rocket

A US daredevil has been killed during an attempted launch of a homemade rocket in the Californian desert, reports say.

"Mad" Mike Hughes, 64, crash-landed his steam-powered rocket shortly after take-off near Barstow on Saturday.

A video on social media shows a rocket being fired into the sky before plummeting to the ground nearby.

Hughes was well-known for his belief that the Earth was flat. He hoped to prove his theory by going to space.

The daredevil, who lived in Apple Valley, made headlines internationally when he announced his intention to prove his theory that the Earth was flat.

In March last year, Hughes managed an altitude of 1,870ft (570m) before deploying his parachutes and landing with a bump.

Speaking afterwards, Hughes said: "Am I glad I did it? Yeah, I guess. I'll feel it in the morning. I won't be able to get out of bed. At least I can go home and have dinner and see my cats tonight."

‘R-rated’ tea towel sold at Myer causes a stir online

https://au.news.yahoo.com/rrated-tea-to ... 27996.html

A collection of tea towels for sale at Myer featuring Australian animals appearing to have intercourse has caused a sensation online.

Facebook users in a private group couldn’t contain their laughter when a member posted an image of the La La Land Wild Fur You Australiana tea towel that she spotted for $19.95 in her local store.

“Anyone else seen these at Myer?” she asked the group, along with an image of the tea towel featuring animals paired up and “reproducing”.

The tea towel features native Australian wildlife such as emus, wombats, kangaroos and koalas in pairs.

Members of the group saw the funny side of the cheeky tea towel, which is featured on Myer’s website with the description “washing up your dishes just got a whole lot more steamy!”

“That is one way to encourage native fauna to reproduce,” one person responded to the woman’s Facebook post.
“After the recent fires and impact on our wildlife, nothing better than our Aussie animals getting their freak on,” another user wrote.

Several people jumped onboard, saying they would be the perfect gift for overseas friends.
“Overseas Christmas presents sorted! Thank you, finding it so hard to find unique gifts to post from Australia,” oner person commented.

Other members became excited when another pointed out the range also featured tote bags, mugs, pencil cases and an exotic African animals edition.

“Rock this daring tote bag and cause a scene,” Myer advertised for the tea towel featuring elephants, lions and zebras mating.

“They had this bag a couple of years ago and it sold out fast,” one person said online.
“I don’t know if i should laugh, cry or be shocked,” another user wrote.

The artist responsible for the colourful designs, Lilly Perrott, is an in house designer for the brand La La Land and described her style as “creating playful scenes and concepts reflecting pop culture today”.

Yahoo News Australia contacted Myer for comment.

Worth a bet with Coral in the future....

"In 1923, jockey Frank Hayes won a race at Belmont Park in New York despite being dead. He suffered a heart attack mid-race, but his body stayed in the saddle until his horse crossed the line for a 20-1 outsider victory."

The type of "unwanted gift" that really should have been exchanged..... Bet it was a bl**dy surprise!!

Man Accidentally Ejects Himself From Fighter Jet During Surprise Flight

Sixty-four-year-old lands in field after grabbing ejection handle to steady himself, French air investigators find.

"A surprise outing in a fighter jet unnerved one defence company executive so much he accidentally ejected himself while flying at over 500km/h (320mph), an investigation into the debacle in France has found.

The 64-year-old civilian got the most unwelcome ride of his life after the force of the take-off made him “float” off his seat, causing him to stand up and involuntarily grab the ejection handle to steady himself.

Air accident investigators found a series of errors in the lead-up to the incident, including ignored medical warnings that the passenger should not undergo to the 3.7g of force generated by the take-off, and loose seat straps that allowed him to float up. He also lost his helmet while being ejected.

The man had never expressed any desire to fly in a fighter jet and had no previous military aviation experience, investigators said. His heart was racing at between 120 and 145 beats per minute beforehand. The flight had been a gift from colleagues and the man felt he couldn’t refuse.

The air accident report, published on 6 April, found the man ejected himself when the two-seater Dassault Rafale B jet reached about 1,300ft (400 metres), seconds after setting out from Saint-Dizier air base in north-eastern France in March 2019.

His parachute deployed and he had a relatively soft landing in a nearby field, avoiding serious injury, before being taken to hospital.

The pilot prevented himself being automatically ejected too and was able to land the plane on the runway despite the involuntary departure of his passenger and the loss of the cockpit canopy.

Judicial and defence investigations into the demonstration flight were continuing."
