Again, I see no evidence that domestic restrictions are having any real effect. Closing the borders and airspace certainly does have an effect. That should have been done long ago.

The situation in Hua Hin hasn't changed in weeks. According to published figures, the deaths here account for 0.6 per one million. We have just over 1,100 active cases 3 months after Thailand's first case when until 3 weeks ago absolutely nothing had been done. Borders open, inviting tourists etc etc.

I will pat the authorities on the back for their efforts in 'tracing'. Our numbers are so low that they can report the source of the infections.

Social distancing has been very limited as has been seen all over the country. Some evidence outside stores etc, but once inside - forget it.

An example of the Thai attitude with regards financial aid.
I know of 'well heeled' people who have successfully claimed their 5 grand as well as some who are 'landlords' of properties who never had a job!

Certainly agree with your comments on closing borders and airspace. With regards to "domestic restrictions" however there's certainly been mixed results - is Sweden going to pay the price? This could be the start of a sharp rise.

With regard to tracing, almost without exception infections have been linked to imports which is why I said that country borders and airspace is a significant factor in containing the virus.
It does appear on the face of it that Thailand have been very lucky but unable to supply any valid reason for that luck.

Fair comment, I thought you were talking generally. Certainly does appear that Thailand has been lucky, considering open borders with China through the height of things in that region.

This has been absolutely incredible to follow - pointless giving "regular totals" as the guy raises ridiculous figures per hour - hats off to him, superb. And to watch him on the news these past few days brings home to you the difference in generations.

^^I was just about to post on exactly the same subject. The rate at which this old boy is raising money is quite phenomenal. He started off a couple of weeks ago hoping to raise £1000 for the NHS. When I watched the news this morning the total had reached £5 million, this afternoon it is over £7 million.

In a time of global crisis, many world leaders are taking unique steps to handle the unprecedented situation. New Zealand Prime Minsiter Jacinda Ardern is now in the spotlight after announcing Wednesday that she and other top government officials would take a 20% pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic.


"Today I can confirm that myself, government ministers and public service chief executives will take a 20% pay cut for the next six months as we acknowledge New Zealanders who are reliant on wage subsidies, taking pay cuts and losing their jobs as a result of COVID-19's global pandemic," Ardern said during a press briefing.

"We feel acutely the struggle that many New Zealanders are facing. And so to do the people that I work with on a daily basis. And while it in and of itself won't shift the government's overall fiscal position, it is about leadership and I acknowledge my colleagues, both in the executive but also the colleagues we work with and the public service and for the decision that was taken today," Ardern continued.
