I'm usually very optimistic, as you may have noticed. However, studies regarding covid-19 are inconclusive on both sides. There is no clear evidence whether the weather will affect the virus or not. Until there is, I will sit on the fence for this one. We all have aspirations about the end of this pandemic but to date that's all they are - aspirations.
Many experts are forecasting a second wave 6 months after the first. There is evidence of that both currently and historically.
Personally, I believe this will eventually settle as a seasonal outbreak and join the other 4 coronaviruses on their annual visit. By that time there will (hopefully) be an effective vaccine to further control it.

What are the other 4 seasonal coronaviruses you refer to?

I'm surprised nobody has taken up the reported 53 new cases today.
We must have sensible people here (unlike another forum) who have realised that even though the figure jumped to 53, the underlying figure of new cases locally is actually 11 if you subtract the mini hot spot of 42 foreign migrants.
Once you open up a border, it was bound to happen.
So still on target.

The migrants were illegals who had been arrested and securely placed into a quarantine centre - mostly from Burma and Malaya plus one from India. More such arrests will follow, is the intention.

Thanks, interesting. I hadn't realised that the first 4 are seasonal and presumably are responsible for some "common colds". Don't fancy catching any of the last 3 though (SARS, MERS, SARS2(covid-19)).

An incredibly sad (official) "milestone", but let's be honest this figure was passed sometime ago - under/miss-reporting (IMO) of hospital deaths and completely inaccurate reporting of Care Home/"civilian" (community) deaths.

Coronavirus: UK hospital Deaths Pass 20,000

"More than 20,000 people have now died with coronavirus in UK hospitals, the Department of Health has announced.

The latest figures showed a total of 20,319 deaths in the UK, up by 813 on the previous day.

At the government's daily briefing, the home secretary described the figure as a "tragic and terrible milestone".

Last month, the government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, said keeping deaths below 20,000 would be a "good outcome".

At the Downing Street briefing, Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "As the deaths caused by this terrible virus pass another tragic and terrible milestone, the entire nation is grieving."

It is 51 days since the first virus-related death was announced in the UK."

So what steps do you both suggest as to how Thailand should come out of lock down ?

Allow businesses to open in provinces that have shown no new cases over the past week. Allow alcohol sales to resume. Allow people to work and feed themselves providing they remain vigilant and aware of the contagion and how it is contracted. Stop the police mafia threatening citizens and taking money off them for non-crimes such as handing out free food or trying to make a living.

If Thailand really has such low numbers compared to the rest of the world, why does it have one of the strictest lockdown regimes? Oh yeah ... military dictatorship

Until a vaccine is able to be manufactured in vast quantity we are only BUYING TIME.

So it seems to me that social distancing is paramount and if only say 10% do not carry this out then there is a huge risk on another wave starting and the likes of Taiwan will need to quarantine all travelers etc
